Learn Sign Language

Our 10 Week Basic Sign Language Courses start next week. To register please call to the SU Office ASAP with the €40 course fee. 
Course Options are:

Financial Aid Fund

Applications for the Financial Aid Fund will open on Monday 22nd September. The link will be emailed to all students at this point. Applications close on the 10th of October. More Information Here.

Volunteering Fair Wednesday 24th September

Not to be missed NUI Galway Volunteering Fair Wednesday 24th Sept 11.00-5.00 in the Bailey Allen Hall. Over 80 organisations will be showcasing a wide range of placement, volunteering an internship opportunities.  This is a great chance to gain skills and experience for your CV.  It’s the biggest in the country and it is all right here in Galway!

Class Representatives

Every class is entitled to a Class Representative to represent their class. If your class does not have a Class Rep your voice will not be heard. If you have any questions on the roles and responsibilities of a Class Rep contact the SU Vice-President/Education Officer Phelim Kelly at su.education@nuigalway.ie. Life Skills 2014 – now enrolling

The Life Skills Programme run by the Students’ Union offers a chance to further your development outside of the academic world. To book your space call up to the Students’ Union office beside the College Bar with the course fee where applicable.

Courses on offer to students during the 2014/15 academic term include:

  • Anti-Racism Training Course
  • Basic Sign Language Classes – starts next week!
  • Occupational First Aid
  • Cardiac First Responder
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
  • Self Defence Course

Student Leap Cards & ISIC Cards

The shiny new Student Leap Cards and ISIC Cards are available now from the Students’ Union office upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday. All you need to do is bring yourself, your new college ID, €15 and a smile for the photo we will take of you. These are valid until the 31st of December 2015.

Synapse Friday 26th September

Synapse //a Tech Carnival, is a student organised, one day interactive technology showcase by top companies in the Bailey Allen hall on Friday the 26th of September. We have talks, discussion panels, give-a-ways, prizes and stalls from Microsoft, LinkedIn and many more, for full line up and free tickets go to synapsegalway.com

Suas Global Issues Course – Now Enrolling!

The Suas Global Issues Course offers students an introduction to development issues, such as education, health, trade, environment, debt and taking action through interactive discussion- led sessions. The course runs for 7 weeks starting September 29th, 6:30 – 8:30, one evening per week, on either a Monday or Tuesday.

SU Free Cloakroom

The SU Cloakroom is now open beside the SU Shop near the Bialann. The Cloakroom is FREE and is open Monday to Friday 9am – 6.30pm. Please note that we cannot accept laptops and items must be removed at the end of each day.

8k Run in aid of Jigsaw Galway

Registration is now open for the NUI Galway 8k run at 10am on Saturday 11th October in aid of Jigsaw Galway. There will also be lunchtime running groups from the Sports Centre for anyone interested in doing a bit of training before the run.

Lockers – 662 Lockers still available!

Please note that lockers are now available. You need to register online first at www.su.nuigalway.ie and your locker will be reserved for a 3 day period during which you can call up to the SU to collect your key and pay for same.

Please note that keys for lockers in Áras Moyola and the Engineering Building can only be collected at the SU Engineering Desk in the Engineering Building foyer Monday – Friday 11am-3pm.

Women at Heart: Fitness Flash Mob at Spanish Arch On World Heart Day, Monday 29th September

We’re looking for a group of 200+ women to help us create awareness around our Women at Heart campaign. We want to empower women to make their heart health a priority and this year’s message is ‘Do It For Yourself’. We plan to create a buzz, make some noise, and have good fun at the same time! Last year we did something similar and we received national media coverage; we’re hoping for the same again this year, but we need your help!

To Join Our Fitness Flash Mob, you must register with Croí by calling Jennifer on 091-544310. We need your registration details in advance to plan for t-shirts and places on the bus!

NUI Galway Students’ Union Election Results 2014

Congratulations to the newly elected NUI Galway Students’ Union Sabbatical officers who will take up office on the 1st of July. They are: President Declan Higgins, Vice-President/Education Officer Phelim Kelly and Vice-President/Welfare Officer Aoife Ní Shúilleabháin. The students of NUI Galway also voted to keep the Students’ Union Pro-Choice on the issue of abortion and voted to support the BDS Campaign against the state of Israel.

On Thursday 13th of March students will go back to the polls at NUI Galway to elect their part-time officers and to decide on a referendum regarding the Students’ Union Position on the Issue of Couples of the Same Gender Availing of Civil Marriage.
