Student Email Access Problem – Use your Campus Account (Blackboard) password

Some students cannot access their student email account. Impacted students had two passwords – one password for their campus account (Blackboard) and a different password for their student email account. The change implemented on January 7th,   replaced a student’s email password with their Campus Account (Blackboard) password.

If you cannot access your student email account, please ensure you are using your Campus Account (Blackboard) password to log in to your student email account.

If you have forgotten your Campus Account password, you can reset your password using CASS –https://cass.nuigalway.ie.

Should you experience any further difficulties, please contact the Service Desk on 091 495777 Email servicedesk@nuigalway.ie

Increase in Thefts of Bikes from NUI Galway

The Gardai have been in touch with us regarding the increase in bike thefts from NUI Galway. They warned that students using inferior, cheap locks are leaving themselves open to theft. If you are leaving your bike overnight or over the weekend please use the Bike Compound near the Bank of Ireland. This compound is purpose built, accessible only with your ID card and near the University Security office. Please invest in a good lock for your bike and take a note of the serial number on your bike so that you can report this to the guards in the event that it is stolen.

Pushers needed for the Macnas Halloween Parade Sunday 26th October

Macnas is taking to the streets again this year on Sunday 26th October for their biggest event of the year: the Macnas Halloween Parade. They’ll be putting on a street-hopping, traffic-stopping party with a host of new giants, performance, bespoke costume, live original music and our award-winning design. But to get their giants up town they need pushers which is a great way to get involved and see the parade from the unique perspective of within, without having to put yourself front and centre (if that’s not your thing). You’ll get ear plugs, gloves and the chance to meet other groovy, helpful people while seeing the crowd’s faces and hearing their comments and cheers close-up. You will be the unsung hero of this year’s parade (until later, when we will indeed sing for you!).

If you are interested in being part of this year’s parade as a pusher, please email roisin@macnas.com with your name, phone number and confirming that you are available on Sunday 26th October and are in good physical condition for this role.

Ever feel anxious about public speaking or meeting people…?

September will see the launch of the new and improved NUI Galway Participate online programme – a resource for anyone dealing with shyness or social anxiety. Whether it’s just difficulty with public speaking that’s holding you back, or a more general issue with meeting people, this will be worth checking out.

Participate uses cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques. Similar programmes have been run successfully in NUI Galway and elsewhere in the past.  Students who sign up also get a personal tutor. Your tutor will check in with you online every week to help make sure that the programme is working for you.

All students of NUI Galway will be e-mailed with a link to the Participate website in September.  You can visit the site, test your social anxiety, and see how it works. This is also a research programme, so if you join you will be contributing to something that will help others, as well as yourself!

Organ Donation Awareness Talk

A talk presented by Colin White (Irish Kidney Association) and his colleague regarding Organ Donation Awareness is being held on Tuesday 11th March from 12:00-13:00 in the Larmor Theater (along the concourse). It has been organised by six second year Biomedical Science students who would greatly appreciate if you would complete their short 10 question survey here. There will be FREE lunch for early arrivals to the talk!

Diabetes Awareness Day

You are invited to join us on Monday March 10th for our diabetes awareness day. As part of our 2nd year Biomedical Science Community Knowledge Initiative we will be having an event on the concourse. Test your knowledge about diabetes and perhaps learn a few things. Fill out our survey on the day and you’ll be in with the chance of winning a cash prize. Help us spread knowledge about this disease. We’ll be near Smokeys from 11am-3pm
