We are still looking for a Mature Students Officer, a Convenor of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences and a Clubs’ Captain to join the Students’ Union team for 2015/16.
Nominations for these 3 positions will reopen at 10am on Monday 23rd March and close at 5pm on Wednesday 8th April. The election will take place on Thursday 16th April.

Alive Cert Application Deadline 5pm TOMORROW

The deadline to apply for your Alive Volunteering Certificate is 5pm tomorrow. Make sure that your efforts are recognised. The Awards Ceremony is on Tuesday 31st March. Just login at and go to the ALIVE Certificate application section.

NUI Galway are currently recruiting volunteer mentors for NUIG’s Student Connect Programme. Online application deadline Weds 25th March.

Rails Girls need Volunteers

Ever felt the stereotypes and prejudices that keep more women from entering IT a little overwhelming? want to contribute to change this trend? you can volunteer to co-organise and/or coach during a 2-days workshop that will allow women to easily build a web application, demystifying the “coding” activity. the workshop has been running since 2013 and is part of the “Rails Girls” [1] movement, successful worldwide. ‘Seas Suas’ is an initiative aimed to encourage students to be proactive in helping fellow students

The objective of the programme is to:

$1·         Encourage students to be more observant of fellow students in need of help

The training examines topics such as mental health, alcohol, sexuality and suicide. What are the benefits of being involved in Seas Suas?

The Irish Centre for Human Rights presents “Witness”

The Irish Centre for Human Rights, will host a rehearsed performance out of context, dealing with human rights & humanitarian law issues. The play “WITNESS” performed by Andrea Kelly, will take place on Friday, the 27th of March 2015, MRI Theatre of NUIG, at 4:00pm.

This Tuesday will you SHAVE or DYE to fight Cancer?

NUI Galway Shave or Dye takes place this Tuesday 17th February 2pm-5pm in the College Bar. Please support the event by volunteering to get your hair shaved or dyed (temporary options available!) or just come along to support the brave NUI Galway students and staff that are getting the chop!

SU Elections 2015 – Nominations Open Next Week

The SU Council Chairperson will be elected at the last SU Council meeting of the year at 6pm on Monday 2nd March 2015 in IT250. Please note that only registered class reps can run for, nominate and vote in this election.

Nominations open at 10am on Monday 16th February – nomination forms will be available from the SU Office and website.

Nominations close at 5pm on Monday 23rd February – completed nomination forms must be returned to the box in the SU Office. Late nominations will not be accepted.

Full Time Officer Elections – President, VP/Education, VP/Welfare – Nominations Open 10am Thursday 19th February. Nominations Close 5pm Wednesday 25th February. Election Day Thursday 5th March.

SU Charity Aquathon – Just 30 Spaces Left!

The NUI Galway Students’ Union Charity Aquathon takes place on Tuesday 24th of February 2015. The event consists of a 750m swim (30 lengths) in the swimming pool in the Sports Centre followed by a 5km run in Dangan. 

Participants are asked to raise a minimum of €25 to take part and all proceeds will go to the SU Charities: Console and BeLonG To. You can sign up in the Students’ Union office/Engineering Desk and collect your Sponsorship Card now. Entry includes free t-shirt and food for all participants.

The IGNITE Graduate Business Innovation Programme is carrying out a national survey among 3rd level students on attitudes towards entrepreneurship. Examining student interest in becoming entrepreneurs, the survey will assess the positive and negative factors that influence students when it comes to entrepreneurship,and we would love to hear your opinions.
