Students’ Union Organise GE2020 Information Day
NUI Galway Students’ Union will be hosting two major events on Tuesday 4th of February to help their 19,000 student members to decide who to vote for in the General Election on the 8th of February.
The first event is a live broadcast of the Moncrieff show on Newstalk FM from campus. The live student audience will be voicing their concerns about climate change and what they think politicians should be doing about it. This event is a collaboration with SpunOut.ie, NYCI and USI taking place 1.30pm-4pm in The View in Áras na Mac Léinn. Free tickets are available here.
The second event will see a hustings of the Galway election candidates where students can discuss their party’s policies on housing, healthcare, education, transport, work, direct provision and public services. This event is in collaboration with ONE Galway and GMIT Students’ Union and will take place from 7.30pm in the Kirwan Theatre. Free tickets are available here.
Students’ Union President Clare Austick said: “We have registered thousands of NUI Galway students to vote again this year and we want them to be as informed as possible when they go to vote on the 8th of February. Our student members are more engaged than ever and are adamant that the next Government address their concerns regarding accommodation, funding for education, climate change, healthcare and direct provision.”
