The SU Big Fat Charity Cake Sale AND Wooly Ward’s Petting Farm Visit 

The Ultimate Study Week Study Break takes place 11am-3pm Wednesday 2nd December 2015 in Áras na Mac Léinn. 

There will be rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, chicks, hens, turkeys, geese, ducks, sheep, goats and Kuzco the Llama along with plenty of CAKE, a massive raffle and tunes from Flirt FM! All funds raised go to Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society. Supported by NUIG CancerSoc, Flirt FM, The Gourmet Tart Company and the College Bar.

Volunteers Needed for SU Charity Cake Sale

We are looking for baking and non-baking volunteers to help out with our Big Fat Charity Cake Sale on Wednesday 2nd December. So if you want to avoid study by baking or by volunteering give us a shout! All funds raised will go to Galway Rape Crisis Centre & the Irish Cancer Society. Exam Buses

We have partnered with City Direct Bus Company to provide buses to the two exam venues in Salthill at Leisureland and the Galway Bay Hotel. This service will run twice a day during the exams and costs €2 per journey. Buses will leave University Road at 08:40 & 15:40 for Salthill. Buses will leave Leisureland in Salthill at 11:40 & 18:40 to return to University Road via Eyre Square.

Student Leap Card Vouchers Expire this Monday 30th November

Just a reminder that if you have a voucher from AIB for the Student Leap Card that you need to bring it in to us before Monday the 30th of November to get your travelcard for €3. We are open 10am-5pm Monday-Friday and we will take your photo and print the card off straight away. If you don’t have one of the vouchers the Student Leap Card costs €15 and they expire 31st December 2016.

AIDS West World AIDS Day Memorial Concert 7pm Tuesday 1st December

This is an open invitation to the students of NUI Galway to come to this free concert on Tuesday 1st December at 7pm in  St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway and show their solidarity with those living with HIV and help challenge the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV.Bel Canto and Cois Cladaigh will perform on the night.

Free screening of THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING 7pm tonight Thurs 26th Nov in D’Arcy Thompson Theatre

This screening is co-organised by The Irish Centre for Human Rights, EcoSoc (Ecological Society), CCAFS Soc. (Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Society), Amnesty Soc. and Transition Galway.

We have come together to host a free public screening of the newly-released documentary film based on Naomi Klein’s latest book ‘This Changes Everything’. Klein is the international best-selling author of ‘No Logo’ and ‘The Shock Doctrine’.

Volunteers needed for Mini Med School

Are you a healthcare student? Or a science student? Would you like to help inspire the next generation of students at NUIG? If so, then you will be an ideal volunteer for the upcoming Mini Med School that will be held on campus in January/February 2016. We are looking for anyone interested in planning the event. Mini Med School 2016 is an EXPLORE project in collaboration with the NUIG Cancer Society. The aim is to hold 4 workshop evenings for secondary school students – where they can come face to face with current students and get a feel for what it would be like to study here! We are aiming to inspire and introduce them into the healthcare or research sector, in a fun and stimulating way. If you would be willing to help with various tasks (i.e. PR, housekeeping, staff and student collaboration), then drop an email to minimednuig@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon!

A Big Fat Charity Cake Sale AND Wooly Ward’s Petting Farm Visit 

11am-3pm Wednesday 2nd December 2015 in Áras na Mac Léinn (Petting farm 12pm-2pm outside Áras na Mac Léinn)

There will be rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, chicks, hens, turkeys, geese, ducks, sheep, goats and Kuzco the Llama along with plenty of CAKE, tea, coffee, a massive raffle and tunes from Flirt FM!

We will have FREE Tea or Coffee for the first 100 people to buy some cake kindly sponsored by the College Bar. 

Pepsi will also be there on the day giving away FREE bottles of Pepsi Max Cherry! 

All funds raised go to Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society

Raffle prizes to be won include: Tickets to The Strypes, Connacht Rugby Match Tickets, Electric Wristbands and much more! 11am-4pm Tuesday 2nd December 2014 in Áras na Mac Léinn (Petting Farm 12pm-2pm outside Áras na Mac Léinn). Complimentary tea or coffee (while stocks last!) with all purchases!

All funds raised go to Console and BeLonG To. 

 

SU Enterprise Awards Deadline 5pm TOMORROW

The SU Enterprise Awards are now accepting applications and there is a €23,000 prize fund up for grabs! If you have a great idea for a business or a social enterprise make sure you get your entry in now. Closing date for entries is 5pm Friday 28th November.

Extra Study Space 29th November-16th December

In addition to the spaces in the Library and the Reading Room extra study spaces will be available from the 29th November onwards in the Arts Science Building (Concourse), Áras Uí Chathaill, Arts/Science Tower 2 and the Engineering Building 8am-10pm. Full list of locations.

Exam Buses to Salthill Venues

We have partnered with City Direct to run a non-stop direct service to Salthill during the Exams. The service costs €2 per journey and will depart from the bus stop on University Road (between Wards & Tescos) to drop students beside Leisureland and the Galway Bay Hotel.

  • Leaving University Road: 08:40, 12:10, 15:40
  • Leaving Salthill (Leisureland): 11:40, 15:10, 18:40

 

Student Leap Card Vouchers Expire 30th November

If you have a voucher from AIB for a Student Leap Card please note that these expire on 30th November so you will need to call in to us before 5pm on Friday 28th November with €3 and we will print it off and take your photo.

Kinvara locals to speak about boycott of Israel 7pm Tonight

On Thursday 27 November, the Galway Palestine Solidarity Campaign will hold a talk on the boycott of Israeli goods by business owners and consumers in the town of Kinvara in Monroe’s Tavern, Dominick Street, at 7pm. The meeting will be addressed by John Griffin and Frank Naughton, two members of the community in Kinvara who helped organise the boycott after numerous conversations in the local community about Israeli atrocities. The boycott, initiated in August 2014, was a direct response to the barbaric attacks on the people of Gaza by the Israeli military forces, with left over 1,800 Palestinians dead.

Galway Rape Crisis Centre 30th Anniversary Walk Saturday 6th December 2014

Join Galway Rape Crisis to mark 30 Years of Healing and hope for survivors of sexual abuse and violence. Begins at 3pm from the Spanish Arch and ends at Blackrock. For information and registration visit www.galwayrcc.org
