Disclosure Training with Galway Rape Crisis Centre
This half day course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to deal appropriately with a disclosure of sexual violence, in settings where this is likely to occur. It is also a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to do voluntary work (e.g. fundraising) with Galway Rape Crisis Centre. The training is delivered by Galway Rape Crisis Centre counsellors with extensive client experience and training skills.
The main aims of the training are to:
- Increase awareness of the causes and effects of sexual violence
- Examine attitudes, values and beliefs about sexual violence
- Promote an understanding and give opportunity to practice scenarios involving a disclosure of sexual violence
- Introduce the work of Galway Rape Crisis Centre, and give information on the broad range of services they provide
Training Methods: Classroom presentation on multimedia projector. Roleplay exercises. Group Discussion. Course handouts, questionnaires and evaluation forms are provided.
Certification: Participants will be issued with an attendance certificate on completion of the course. 5 CPD Points awarded through Irish Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy.

NUI Galway Students’ Union Christmas Day comes early again this year. We are holding a massive Christmas Day fundraiser in the College Bar on Thursday 21st of November to raise money for Galway Rape Crisis Centre and ISPCC/Childline. There will be a traditional Christmas dinner, carols, cheesy Christmas tunes with DJ Byrno and lots of prizes for the best/worst Christmas jumpers along with a whole lot of other Festive merriment! Get your tinsel, mistletoe and jumper ready now!

The NUI Galway Students’ Union 2014 Naked Calendar is on sale across campus now. 63 brave NUI Galway students revealed all for the calendar and you can get an eyeful for only €5! The NUI Galway Students’ Union White Collar Fight Night is back on Thursday 14th November in the Bailey Allen Hall. The event is in aid of the SU Charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and ISPCC/Childline. Doors 7pm, first fight 7.45pm. Tickets on sale in the SU office NOW: €12 for adults, €7.50 for students, under 18’s & OAPs. Children under 12 go free.
Bus to Youth Assembly in Dublin this Saturday
NUI Galway Students’ Union will be supporting the “We’re not Leaving” campaign and encouraging all students to attend the Youth Assembly in Dublin on Saturday the 9th of November. The Union is providing a return bus to the assembly and tickets are on sale for €2 from the Students’ Union office now. We will be leaving at 9am on Saturday.
Aims of the assembly:
– To build a campaign that unites students, young workers and the unemployed to address the youth crisis.
– To produce a youth charter, which articulates demands to be placed on representative bodies, the state and society – and which articulates a divergent social vision from the path of austerity Ireland on behalf of young people.
– To build a democratic infrastructure on the basis of this charter that can reinvigorate youth politics locally and nationally.

This clinic is open to all mature students to come and talk with our Mature Students Officer Paula. Our Postgrad Karaoke nights are coming back due to popular demand. The first Postgrad-Aoke night will be in the College Bar on Friday 15th November from 7.30pm with Giant Games, pizza deals and of course Karaoke! All performers will be rewarded for their efforts so get practising.

ISIC Cards now on sale in SU
We are now selling ISIC Cards in the Students’ Union office. The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is the only globally recognised student ID with 41,000 benefits in 126,000 locations.
