NUI Galway Is On The March!

Join us to march for publicly funded education and investment in the grant on Wednesday the 4th of October in Dublin and don’t take no for an answer.

Education Is… Is a USI campaign calling on the Irish government and the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills to make a historic long-term decision and invest in the publicly-funded third level education model. An income-contingent loan scheme is not a viable solution to third-level funding. This system will create a burden of €20,000+ debt on anyone who wishes to attend third-level education.

€2 Bus Tickets to March for Choice in Dublin

We are selling €2 return bus tickets for NUI Galway students wishing to travel to the March for Choice in Dublin on Saturday 30th of September. Bus tickets are for NUI Galway students only and will be on sale from the Students’ Union office Monday-Friday 10am-5pm.

The bus leaves from the Quad at 9.30am sharp and will be returning from St Stephen’s Green at 5pm on Saturday 30th of September.

Financial Aid Fund

FINANCIAL AID

It’s important to manage your resources well no matter how scarce they are!

Some students find themselves experiencing financial hardship during their time in the University. If you find yourself in this situation, and cannot reasonably obtain funds elsewhere, financial support is available from the Financial Aid Fund.

The purpose of the Financial Aid Fund (FAF) is to tackle disadvantage by enabling students to fully benefit from their studies. Support from the Financial Aid Fund takes into account a student’s financial situation and other personal circumstances.  A standardised assessment system is used to determine the level of need and aid.  The ability to support a student depends on the size of the fund available, the number of applications and the circumstances of the applicants in any given year. You are eligible if your course at NUI Galway is at least one year long and will lead to either an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.

  • Semester 1 Financial Aid Fund Online Applications open on Monday 17th of September 2018 and closes at 12 noon on the 1st October 2018.
  • Semester 2 Financial Aid Fund Online Applications open on Monday 14th January 2018.

Student Email Access Problem – Use your Campus Account (Blackboard) password

Some students cannot access their student email account. Impacted students had two passwords – one password for their campus account (Blackboard) and a different password for their student email account. The change implemented on January 7th,   replaced a student’s email password with their Campus Account (Blackboard) password.

If you cannot access your student email account, please ensure you are using your Campus Account (Blackboard) password to log in to your student email account.

If you have forgotten your Campus Account password, you can reset your password using CASS –https://cass.nuigalway.ie.

Should you experience any further difficulties, please contact the Service Desk on 091 495777 Email servicedesk@nuigalway.ie

Increase in Thefts of Bikes from NUI Galway

The Gardai have been in touch with us regarding the increase in bike thefts from NUI Galway. They warned that students using inferior, cheap locks are leaving themselves open to theft. If you are leaving your bike overnight or over the weekend please use the Bike Compound near the Bank of Ireland. This compound is purpose built, accessible only with your ID card and near the University Security office. Please invest in a good lock for your bike and take a note of the serial number on your bike so that you can report this to the guards in the event that it is stolen.
