Create a Computer Game in 12 Hours

INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics at NUI Galway, is bringing the GameCraft 2014 to Galway for the first time after it has been running in Dublin for years and all over the world. Gamecraft is a game jam, which means you and yours have a ludicrously short amount of time (12 hours) to turn an idea into a computer game.

It’s on Saturday May 10th from 9am to 9pm, in our conference room. It’s a great way to meet new folk, have some fun and most importantly make more games!

Please, do register hereand spread the word.

NUI Galway Students’ Union Supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS)
NUI Galway Students’ Union has officially joined the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which calls for an academic, cultural and economic boycott of the state of Israel. The decision was taken by a referendum of NUI Galway students last month. The referendum, which was called by The Palestine Solidarity Society asked students whether or not they agreed with the motion: “That NUI Galway Students’ Union actively supports the campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against the State of Israel”. 65% of voters supported the motion. Intervarsity BioBlitz! May 1st & 2nd 2014

On May 1st and 2nd Ireland’s first Intervarsity BioBlitz will take place. From 5pm on Thursday 1st May to 5pm on Friday 2nd May NUI Galway will race against UCC, TCD, DCU, UL, GMIT and Dundalk IT to record as many species as possible over the 24 hour period. The team that records the most species wins.

Biodiversity means the variety of all living things, so we need people to survey and identify birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates, higher plants, bryophytes, lichens, fungi and diatoms. By recording as much wildlife as possible, the college can find out how biodiverse the campus is, and it is an important step in our efforts to gain a Green Flag. The Green campus needs your help! In addition to recording wildlife, we need people to help with organisation and public outreach.

If you are interested in supporting this unique event and finding out how bio diverse NUI Galway is please email karen.dooley@nuigalway.ie by Friday 11th April. Let us know what group/aspect of wildlife you would be able to help identify or what area you might be able to help with.
