The objective of this project is to make the NUI Galway campus observatory available to students, expand the interest of the student body in astronomy, and provide extra students with experience and training on the state of the art 3D visualisation suite and on-campus observatory.

Volunteers URGENTLY needed for 2 hours for SU Charity Collection Day this Saturday 7th February

We are looking for volunteers to help out with our SU Annual Charity Collection day this Saturday 7th February. We will be shaking buckets and convincing the good people of Galway to give us their spare change for Console and BeLonG To. Please email if you can help out at any of the following times 1pm-3pmor 3pm -5pm this Saturday the 7th of February.


Education Information Evening with Galway Traveller Movement

An information evening on education will be held on Tuesday 10th February at 7pm in the Larmour Theatre hosted by NUI Galway Students’ Union and the Galway Traveller Movement. All are welcome!

Troubled by Procrastination?

There will be workshops regarding exam performance and procrastination to help you get back on track for the summer exams.

Workshops include the following:

-Failure and exam performance Tuesday Feb 10th

-Mind Mapping (a study technique clinically proven to improve concentration and grades) Wednesday Feb 11th

-Procrastination Thursday Feb 12th

All workshops will commence at approx. 6:30pm and will be held in AMB-GO43 Seminar room in the Arts Millennium building. Except for Mind Mapping which will take place in the McMunn Theatre.

All workshops are free but places are limited.

Rainbow Week 2015

GiG Soc are hosting the following events as part of their annual Rainbow Week:

  • Rainbow Week Official Launch Party (Monday 9th Feb, IT202, 7-9pm)
  • Marriage Equality Taskforce Information Evening (Tuesday 10th Feb, AC202, 7pm) – in collaboration with NUI Galway SU. 
  • Workshop Wednesday (11th Feb, IT202, 6-9pm): Workshops include Trans 101, Sexual Health, and Supporting Someone Coming Out. 
  • RAINBOW BALL (Thursday 12th Feb, Clayton Hotel, 6.30pm – late): Full tickets €35 each, including reception on arrival, 4-course gourmet meal and a night of fabulous entertainment!

Get your Bike Back!

BikeBack will reduce bicycle theft on campus initially and ultimately promote cycling around Galway by installing a GPS unit into bicycles allowing them to be tracked and also deterring opportunistic thieves by a comprehensive marketing campaign. The new NUI Galway Please Talk mental health initiative supported by EXPLORE will be holding its first meeting at 1pm on Tuesday, 10th February, in the Space, Áras na Mac Léinn. All are welcome to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to elect a committee and discuss what Please Talk can do for students at staff and any ideas attendees may have for events/initiatives. The next Student Student Astronomy Night, supported by EXPLORE, is taking place on Wednesday, 18th February. The event includes a brief introductory talk on astronomy and a 3D tour of the universe, followed by a trip to the on-campus Imbusch Observatory for a bit of stargazing! Places are limited. SU Charity Aquathon – Sign up and get training Now!

The NUI Galway Students’ Union Charity Aquathon takes place on Tuesday 24th of February 2015. The event consists of a 750m swim (30 lengths) in the swimming pool in the Sports Centre followed by a 5km run in Dangan. 

Participants are asked to raise a minimum of €25 to take part and all proceeds will go to the SU Charities: Console and BeLonG To. You can sign up in the Students’ Union office/Engineering Desk and collect your Sponsorship Card now. Entry includes free t-shirt and food for all participants. We also have a 5 week training plan to get you ready on our website.

Energy Night Wednesday 11th February

Energy Night is back, next Wednesday the 11th starting at 17:00 with the Careers Talk followed by the main event at 19:00, a panel discussion on the theme Smart Grid, Pushing Technology and Privacy Boundaries. New Information Point for Access, Disability and Mature Student Services

From Monday 9th of February, Access, Disability and Mature student services will have a single access point for all queries and information in relation to their services.

The information point will be located in the upstairs foyer of Áras Uí Chathail and will be open from 9am to 1pm, Mondays and Tuesdays.
