SU Enterprise Awards 2014 €23,000 Prize Fund – Closing date FRIDAY 17TH JANUARY
The NUI Galway Students’ Union Enterprise Awards aim to unlock the potential of the students of NUI Galway to invest in their own futures today.
If you have an idea for a new business or a social enterprise then this can be the competition that can allow you to realise your goal. Students are invited to sketch out the initial proposals for their project or business and to draw up the plans they hope will make their idea a reality. The finalists will be given the chance to take their ideas forward and to set about implementing their projects with the assistance of a financial allowance, workshops and clinics.
The overall winner will receive a direct investment of €10,000 in their project to really help get it off the ground in addition to further guidance and mentoring to help bring the project forward, while two runners up prizes, each valued at €5,000 will also be awarded. The six final projects going through to the second stage of the competition will each receive a €500 bursary.
Closing Date for Submissions is 5pm Friday 17th January 2014. More information, submission template and competition rules are available here.
Semester one provisional exam results will be released on a staggered basis between Wednesday 29th of January and Friday 31st January. Release dates vary by School.

Naked Charity Calendar on Sale NOW €5
The NUI Galway Students’ Union 2014 NakedCharity Calendar is on sale across campus nowand is an way to get yourself organised for 2014 supporting two great charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and ISPCC/Childline. 63 brave NUI Galway students revealed all for the calendar and you can get an eyeful for only €5! Calendars are on sale from the Students’ Union Office, the SU Shop, the SocsBox, the Hub, Smokey’s and the SU desk in the Engineering Building.
First Year Engineers – CÉIM Sessions
CÉIM sessions begin during the second week of lectures (Monday 20th January onwards). Sessions are scheduled for two slots: Tuesdays, 11am-12pm and Wednesdays, 2pm-3pm. More information will be sent to students during their first week of lectures. Email email@example.com if there are any questions.

Free Tai-Chi Classes
Free Tai-Chi Workshop start from 15th January every Wednesday 17:00-18:30, in the Space upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn. All levels of learners welcomed. Apps4Gaps Challenges Students to Create Apps Using Public Data in an Island of Ireland Competition
Students are invited to take part in an Island of Ireland competition to create apps from freely available and publicly accessible data from the 2011 Census in areas such as transport, housing and planning.
Individuals and teams of up to three participants can enter in one of two ways, either by submitting an idea for an app as a concept entry or by creating an app and submitting a working app using Open Data from the Census.
January 31st is the closing date to register as a competition entrant and the closing date for concept entry or a working app entry is April 11th.
See Change is looking for Volunteers!
See Change is an alliance of organisations working together through the National Stigma Reduction Partnership to bring about positive change in public attitudes and behaviour towards people with mental health problems.See Change is looking for volunteers to help share their stigma challenging message and to get involved in the national Green Ribbon campaign. There will be a training date on the 1st March 2014 in Galway.
Advisory Session for applicants to the IRC Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme
Dr. Lucy Byrnes (Dean of Graduate Studies), together with the Research Office, will host an advisory session on preparing a successful application on 5pm Tuesday, 14th January 2014 in Lecture Theatre (243), Áras Moyola (Nursing Building) This is a good opportunity for applicants to seek guidance on their application and to have any questions answered. Supervisors are also encouraged to attend.

To participate in the Photo for Europe contest you need a picture that describes how you perceive what being European means. It can be almost everything; a picture that represents reality, utopia, a wish or a wakeup call. As they say, the only limit is your imagination.
