Lockers – Only 300 left (IT Building, Engineering Building & Áras Moyola Only)

You need to register online first at and you can either pay online and collect your key at your leisure OR your locker will be reserved for a 3 day period during which you can call up to the SU to collect your key and pay for same. PLEASE NOTE: after the 3 days your reservation expires if you don’t call in to pay.

Please note that keys for lockers in Áras Moyola and the Engineering Building can only be collected at the SU Engineering Desk in the Engineering Building foyer Monday – Friday 11am-3pm. The Engineering Building desk only takes card payment – no cash.


March For Choice Bus Tickets €2

Join us as we travel to Dublin for the National March For Choice on Saturday 24th of September. Return bus tickets €2 from SU Office and SU Engineering Desk (Card Only) on sale Friday 16th September.

Bus Leaves the Cathedral at 10.30am SHARP. Assemble at the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square from 1.30pm. March to Dáil Éireann at 2pm. Return bus leaves from Merrion Square at 5pm SHARP. NUI Galway Students Only. ID Required. For more information contact


MMA for Self Defence – 6 Spaces Left

Financial Aid Fund Applications Close Fri 30th Sept

The Financial Aid Fund is intended to tackle disadvantage by providing financial support to students who require financial support to enable them to fully benefit from their third level studies. Semester 1 Financial Aid Fund Online Applications close at 12 noon on Friday 30th September. Galway Zombie Walk this Saturday

Get your zombie on this Saturday at the 7th Annual Zombie Walk in aid of Jigsaw Galway. Not good at zombifying yourself? They will have amazing make-up people in Eyre Square from 7pm to make you look undead!


NUI Galway Charity 8k – Early Bird Rate Closes TOMORROW

FREE Mindful Meditation Every Wednesday 1.10pm-1.50pm

Mindful Meditation Practice for Semester 1 will take place every Wednesday from 1:10pm to 1:50pm in classroom AC202 on the concourse.

This is a shared practice, organised by a group of people on campus who have been practicing meditation for years.  All are welcome including staff, students, alumni, members of the local community and guests to campus.

Please note:  Buddhist Monk, Thubten Gelong will join us for a session in October and another in November, dates to be confirmed, please check the website for updates.



Summer is over and it’s back to the grindstone. Those aches and pains that you didn’t feel all summer are suddenly back with a vengeance. Hours at a desk and the pressure of assignments will do that… But what can we do manage tension and stress? Good posture, regular exercise and a healthy diet will all help but sometimes we just want someone to get in there with a thumb or an elbow to work out those stubborn knots.

Struggling with Maths?

SUMS the FREE maths support centre service reopens this Monday 19th of September. SUMS offers FREE mathematics support to students across all colleges and courses as well as to students engaged in Access/Foundation courses. SUMS opens from 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday, during the academic year.

NUIG Free STI Clinic this Tuesday & Wednesday 5pm-7pm

There will be a free STI Clinic operating from the Student Health Unit in Áras na Mac Léinn every Tuesday & Wednesday evening 5pm-7pm. The clinic is by appointment only on a first come, first served basis.


DARE TO WEAR Wednesday!

From top hats and tails to wedding dresses and veils, from debs guna’s and suits, to your fanciest outfits and boots!

On Wednesday 21st September we are asking you to DARE TO WEAR to help raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. This will be part of the nationwide Today FM campaign “Wear Your Wedding Dress Wednesday” so come in your finery to the Quad at 11am on Wednesday 21st September. Class Representatives

Every class is entitled to a Class Representative to represent their class. If your class does not have a Class Rep your voice will not be heard. Student Leap Cards now just €10

The shiny new Student Leap Cards are available now from the Students’ Union office upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday. All you need to do is bring yourself, your new college ID, €10 and a smile for the photo we will take of you. These are valid until the 31st of December 2017.

20 Week Chinese Course at NUI Galway

20 week evening course, An Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture, commences in NUI Galway on Wednesday 21st September 2016.  Classes will run one night a week from 7pm to 9pm.  The fee is €120.00 for students. The course is designed for people with no Chinese language basics but who have a strong interest in China or who travel or do business in China.

Become a Digital Champion

Becoming a Digital Champion is a brilliant way of improving your digital skills, earning the ALIVE certificate, gaining “digital badges” to put on your CV, getting involved in activities on campus throughout the year, and meeting lots of new people! Now in its second year, we are recruiting enthusiastic students (that means you!), who would like to get involved. You don’t have to be tech savvy, but you do have to be interested in improving your own digital skills along with those of your fellow students. or email


Red Bird Youth Collective is the youth education programme for Galway Arts Centre, eligible for anyone between 16 – 24 in the Galway region.

They are currently recruiting new member for their 2016/17 programme, which will include dance and performance workshops and an architecture project. Workshops will be held in the Galway Arts Centre every Sunday for FREE, fully supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.


Blackboard new app called Bb Student for NUI Galway Students

This app is to replace the old app Blackboard Learn. Some of the improvements are:

  • Notifications when you launch the app
  • Sleeker and Faster than the old app
  • View, complete, and submit assignments and tests
  • Check Grades

The app is now available free on iOS, Windows Phone and Android.


Intel Ireland’s “Women in Technology” scholarship awards now taking applications

  • Scholarships are open to female school leavers entering specified undergraduate honours degree courses in science, technology and engineering and up to €3000 for each student per annum.
  • Scholars will complete intern placements or summer internships at an Intel campus
  • The scholarship program is supported by Intel in Leixlip, Shannon and Cork and successful scholars are linked to an Intel campus based on their course selection and geographical location.
  • To assist with career progression and further education, each scholar will be assigned an Intel mentor who can assist and provide advice on managing their academic career
