Saint Patrick’s Day Bank Holiday

The following will be closed on Saint Patrick’s Day Friday 17th of March:

The SU Office, the Library, the Academic Writing Centre, the SU Cloakroom, the SU Engineering Desk, the SU Shop, the Student Health Unit, Sult, Caife na Gaeilge, and Smokey’s Café.

The Wall Café will be open with reduced hours 11:00-15:00. The Reading Room will be open as usual.

Benefit Concert for Five Female Lecturers High Court Case against NUI Galway – Wednesday 29th March, Black Box, Galway

The benefit concert will feature The Stunning along with My Fellow Sponges. The MC for the event will be comedian Tommy Tiernan, so expect the unexpected! You can buy special student rate tickets for €15 from the Students’ Union Office in Áras na Mac Léinn. The concert will be held Wednesday, March 29th, at The Black Box in Galway. The event will raise funds to support court cases filed by the 5 women lecturers at NUI Galway who are fighting for their right to be promoted.

The University bookshop has closed down but the SU Second-hand bookshop is still open for business.

You can browse our stock HERE and then call to the SU Office to pay for and collect your books.



Max the Labrador puppy is the newest member of the Students’ Union team and he will be in our office 10am-12pm every Wednesday to meet you, go for walks with you or just lick your face. Call in and get some puppy love!

Thanks to everyone who came out and voted last Thursday. You elected as your Part Time SU Officers for 2017/18:

Don’t forget that your current SU Officers don’t finish up until the 30th of June so make sure you contact them if you need any help.

NUIG Climate Congress FREE Tickets

Free tickets available now for the 3rd annual climate congress at NUIG on Tuesday the 21st of March. Entry is free and this year’s theme is divestment and sustainable choices.


Student Summit 2017 2pm-7pm Tues 21st March in Dublin Castle

This event will be a promotion and exploration of innovation for third-level students across the island of Ireland. In attendance will be over 600 students, who will interact with over 35 start-ups, learn from 6 different workshops and hear from engaging, motivational speakers from across the start-up sector.

Start-Up Funding for Students and Graduates

Enterprise Ireland’s Competitive Start Fund for Graduate Entrepreneurs is OPEN NOW until 22nd March. We will invest €50,000 in up to 10 start-ups led by recent graduates and final year students. Apply Now.


NUIG Sports Ball

The NUI Galway Sports Ball is on Tuesday 28th of March. Tickets are €40 and are available from the Sports Unit in the Kingfisher. Ticket includes reception, dinner, My Fellow Sponges, The Converse Allstars and Paul Belton.
