Today you are asked to vote to elect your SU Part Time Officers for 2016/17. Your vote is your voice so make sure you use it!
Polling Stations are in the following locations and you need your NUIG ID with you to vote:
- An Bhialann 10am-7pm
- Áras na Mac Léinn 11am-8pm
- Engineering Building 12pm-4pm
- Remote Vote 10am-8pm on SU Website (for those who registered before midnight last night)
Society Auditors please note that you may only vote for the SU Societies Chairperson in An Bhialann 10am-6pm or at the auditors meeting in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 6pm-7pm or in Áras na Mac Léinn 7pm-8pm.
Club Captains please note you may only vote for the SU Clubs Captain in An Bhialann 10am-1pm & 2pm-7pm or at the Captains meeting 1pm-2pm upstairs in the Sports Unit.
Remote Vote option is not available for Socs Chair or Clubs Captain election.
Easter Break & Teaching
Please note that teaching (for students other than Clinical Medical Students) ends on Saturday 19th March and resumes on Monday 4th of April until Saturday 16th of April. Field Trips where relevant take place Monday 21st March-Wednesday 23rd March and Wednesday 30th March – Friday 1st April. More Information.
#NUIGSU16 Election Results so far
Congratulations to the newly elected NUI Galway Students’ Union Sabbatical officers who will take up office on the 1st of July. They are: President Jimmy McGovern, Vice-President/Education Officer Cathal Sherlock and Vice-President/Welfare Officer Daniel Khan. Aaron Reeves was also elected as your SU Council Chair for the year ahead. The students of NUI Galway also voted that the Students’ Union will now actively support the decriminalisation of drugs solely for personal use. The students of NUI Galway also voted that the Students’ Union will now condemn the direct provision system which is inhumane and denies asylum seekers their basic rights and call for its abolition and replacement with a system which respects the human rights of asylum seekers. In line with policy supported by the Migrant Rights Centre and other concerned NGOs.

Need Free Legal Advice?
FLAC Society are running Free Legal Advice Clinics every Tuesday Evening from 6.30 – 8pm in The Wellness Centre, Áras na Mac Léinn. All welcome, whatever the issue.
SU 8 Week Yoga Course Now Enrolling
You can book your space by calling in to the SU Office upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn 10am-5pm Monday-Friday or by phoning 091 524810 to register and pay by credit card. The course fee is €40. The course dates are Thursday 14th April to Thursday 2nd June. Beginners/Improvers: 6pm-7.30pm. Intermediate: 7.30pm-9pm

The Crisis of Mental Health in Ireland: It’s time for radical change
At 7pm on Wednesday 23rd March, NUI Galway will be delighted to welcome Niall Breslin, better known as ‘Bressie’, and Dr Paul D’Alton, Clinical Psychologist to discuss current challenges and the future of mental health in Ireland. The event will be chaired by Dr Jonathan Egan, School of Psychology, NUIG and is free of charge.

The Brain Café: NUI Galway’s Second Annual Undergraduate Research Conference
Only two weeks left until the Conference! The date is fast approaching and we are getting very excited about all the fantastic research ideas that will be shared on the day. Come along and explore research skills from all disciplines as well as meeting like-minded people to get inspired. For those of you thinking of presenting we have extended our deadline for submitting abstracts to next Friday, 18th of March.
We believe that everyone can make a change; it depends on your motivation and the hard work that you put behind your unique ideas. So keep up the good work and we are looking forward to meeting all of you soon. Also, if you present your idea and/or attend the conference, please make sure you register on the website. If yes, this is the study for you. This study is looking at Galway’s walking and cycling infrastructure through using the app Strava to monitor peoples travel patterns across Galway and ultimately highlighting infrastructural deficits in the city.

Exam Timetables Released 4pm Weds 16th March
Semester 2 (2015/2016) exams are scheduled for Monday, 25th April to Wednesday, 11th May 2016 (inclusive). Students are expected to be available for exams for the entire duration of the exam session. More Information.

Saint Patrick’s Day Bank Holiday
The following will be closed on Saint Patrick’s Day Thursday 17th of March:
The Library, the Academic Writing Centre, the SU Office, the SU Shop, the Student Health Unit, the College Bar, Caife na Gaeilge and Smokey’s Café.
The Wall Café will be open with reduced hours 10:00-15:00. The Reading Room will be open as usual.
The SU Cloakroom and the SU Engineering Desk will both close on Wednesday 16th March and reopen on Monday 4th April after St. Patrick’s Day & Easter.

Our office is located upstairs in the Áras na Mac Léinn building beside the College Bar and we are open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm.
