Join us at 9.30am TODAY at the Quad to protest against the recent 4% rent increase for NUI Galway Goldcrest student accommodation. From September a single room in the campus Goldcrest student accommodation will be €750 a month. This is a huge barrier to accessing education. Let’s show the University that students are not cash cows! If you can’t join us today then please sign our petition against the rent increases HERE

- From 2nd March to 27th March get walking where possible, aiming to increase your steps throughout the challenge and win prizes for walking including SU Keep Cups!

At the hustings 3pm-5pm at Sult on Mon 2nd March you can listen, question and decide who you want to vote for on Thurs 5th of March. The Students’ Union is your voice so make sure that you vote for the person who will best represent you and fight for your interests. Sin newspaper and Flirt FM will also be interviewing candidates to help you decide who deserves your vote.

USIT Talk + Info Stand Next Tuesday
USIT will be on campus next Tuesday 3rd of March 11am-3pm Smokey’s Café and 1pm-2pm The View upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn.
The Explore Programme is where NUI Galway students and staff find support for innovative ideas. Staff and students across campus are invited to apply for collaborative projects. There is up to €900 in funding, along with a support structure brought to you by the Innovation Office, to enable innovative ideas to get off the ground. Application deadline Fri 6th March.
Are you a young person with a disability or do you know someone who is?
Young people with disabilities (aged 15 – 20) are invited to take part in research about decision making and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This research would like to learn about the decisions they make and if they feel they are supported or prevented from making key decisions in their lives. Join PotterSoc at 11.30am TODAY in The View for a feel good free brunch and mental health tips! If you’ve any spare books please bring them along as they are collecting books which they will donate to the Adult Mental Health Unit in UHG.
If you need help with essay writing just call in to them on the floor 2 of the Library. Their one-on-one tutorials are FREE with no appointment necessary. Opening Hours are Mon-Thurs 11am-1pm and 6pm-8pm (Plus Thurs 4pm-6pm).

Niteline Galway is a listening, support and info service run by and for students of NUI Galway. Volunteers go through rigorous screening and training programme based on the Samaritans model with support from the NUIG Counselling Service. The service runs 9pm-12am Weds & Thurs on 089 219 6918. You can talk about anything; no problem is too big or too small.
The 2020 PhD Write-Up Bursary scheme is open for PhD students who are near to completing their theses yet who find themselves, for whatever reason, without funding. Applications are available here.

If you are registered to vote in the Seanad Éireann elections please note that ballot papers are being posted out from tomorrow Fri 28th Feb to the address that you registered under. Poll will close at 11am on Tuesday 31st March at which point your completed ballot paper must be returned BY POST to the National University of Ireland.
Nominations are open until 5pm Thurs 12th March for the USI Student Achievement Awards. Categories include: Student Representative of the Year, Mature Student of the Year, Charity Champion of the Year, Club/Society of the Year and Postgraduate Champion of the Year.

A Climate Action Workshop will take place 6pm-8pm Mon 9th March in Room AC213 (Corridor down by Bank of Ireland) Arts Science Building. The workshop is open to all Local Climate Ambassadors and NUI Galway students. Light refreshments will be served. Hope you can make it.
Nominations are now open for the 2019-20 NUIG Teaching Excellence Awards. Any member of staff actively involved in teaching may be nominated for their contribution. They must be nominated by two people, which may be two staff, two students, or one of each.
