Voting takes place 10am-5pm today Thurs 23rd Jan in the Referendum on Restructuring Students’ Union Ofﬁcer Roles.
The Union is your advocacy and representative body and we constantly strive to better ourselves to have the most positive impact for you. Start planning your best summer ever! The NUI Galway Working & Travelling Abroad Fair takes place 12pm-3pm Weds 29th of Jan 2020 in Áras na Mac Léinn. Exhibitors include J1 Visa Companies, Travel Companies, Volunteering/Adventure Companies and Internship/Training Companies.
We will be holding our annual charity collection day in aid of the SU Charities on Saturday 1st of February. If you have 2 hours to spare 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm or 3pm-5pm to shake a bucket please contact us on email@example.com – All funds raised will be going to Domestic Violence Response and AIDS West.

Clare Byrne Live #GE2020 Show
The Clare Byrne Live General Election debate is on 9.30pm Mon 27th Jan and is being broadcast live from the Bailey Allen Hall. Because of this there may be access restrictions to Áras na Mac Léinn and surrounding buildings Sun 26th Jan and Mon 27th Jan. More info to follow from the University but the SU Office will be open as usual 10am-5pm Mon 27th Jan.
NUIG student Mduduzi is from Zimbabwe and has been living in Direct Provision in Galway for the last 3 years. Please sign this petition to help save him from deportation.
LIFT stands for Leading Ireland’s Future Together and the aim of LIFT is to build a better Ireland by developing leaders of character across our country. We will again be holding 8 weeks of LIFT roundtables in the SU starting Fri 31st Jan. Each weeks session will start at 3pm and last 30-45 minutes. We will cover a different leadership theme each week including Listening; Positive Attitude; Respect; Empathy & Understanding; Honesty & Integrity; Competence; Determination and Accountability.You can read more about the initiative at www.liftireland.ie

Become a 2020/2021 CÉIM Leader
Apply now to become a CÉIM peer learning student leader in 2020/21. Involves meeting weekly with 1st year students to help them transition successfully to NUI Galway, gain a greater understanding of coursework and meet new people. Benefits include: intensive free leadership training, skills development, improved CV, feel good factor of helping 1st years, meeting new people, CÉIM leadership certificate and digital badge, and more. Nominations Close 12pm TODAY for Election of a Postgrad Student to Údarás na hOllscoile
Údaras na hOllscoile is the governing authority of NUI Galway. Nominations are now open for a postgraduate student to become a member of Údarás and nominations close at 12pm TODAY Thurs 23rd of Jan. Nomination forms are available here. Voting will take place next Weds 29th Jan 10am-9pm at Smokey’s Café.
Next Tues 28th Jan 11am-1pm in the ILAS Building the Disability Federation of Ireland will be holding a hustings of local General Election candidates where you can raise issues of concern and hear from electoral candidates. The General Election Campaign for the voluntary disability sector #DisabilityGE2020 calls for adequate support to people with disabilities and investment in services to ensure can experience the equality for all people with disabilities as promised in the ratification of the UN CRPD. Ahead of the General Election The Young Greens Society are running a voting workshop educating students on how voting in Ireland works, how to fill in ballot papers etc at 5pm TODAY Thursday the 23rd of January in the View upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn. All welcome.

Access Society Spring Fling Table Quiz
The Access Society are holding a Table Quiz 6pm-8pm Fri 31st Jan at Sult in aid of COPE Galway and Domestic Violence. Cost: €5 per person or €20 for a table of four – Sign up at the Socs Box. Finger Food will be provided as well as a chance to win loads of lovely goodies.
The NUI Galway Postgraduate Open Day will take place 12pm-3pm Tuesday, 4th February in the Bailey Allen Hall. Short presentations will take place during the day, covering such topics as funding opportunities, applications, and research. There will be over 100 stands on display, so this is your opportunity to meet lecturers and postgraduate students, see what postgraduate programmes are on offer, and to meet staff from Postgraduate Admissions, Career Development Centre, Graduate Studies, Fees Office, and other student support services. Made a New Year’s Resolution to get in shape? Us too! Come join us for our Wind Farm 5k to raise money for renewable energy education and the Green Energy Festival (to be held in Galway city on the 17th of April)! The walk, run, or race (depending on how you are feeling) will be on the Peak Ridge Path, winding in and out of the majestic wind turbines with a view of Connemara, lakes, the river, and beautiful Irish scenery. Online registration is €20 and race day sign-ups are €25. The first 50 sign-ups get a free t-shirt so be sure to register today! There is a study examining how social media news impacts people online. It is a quick survey that will take approximately 5-8 minutes and is done entirely online. It is open to any student regardless of what you are studying. If you are interested in participating and helping, you can access the survey here.

SpunOut.ie are recruiting young people aged 16-25 from across the country for their Action Panels. These Action Panels are where young people meet in Dublin, Waterford, Cork or Galway to decide new content ideas for SpunOut.ie. Action panels meet 3 times per year and members have a number of training opportunities such as on how to be effective advocates for causes they care about, as well as receiving personal and professional guidance.
The only free 5/8/10k run that rewards your efforts with a free beer is back at 7pm on Monday 27th of January.
USA Summer Camp are hosting Ireland’s largest Camp Job Fair in the Aviva Stadium this Sunday 26th January. If you want to secure a summer job in America, make sure you don’t miss out! 5 week Empowerment Self Defence course for Women
Empowerment Self Defence is a comprehensive and holistic method of violence resistance education for women. You do not require any prior experience or level of physical fitness.
