Notice of Referendum on Restructuring Students’ Union Officer Roles

Over the course of the last semester the Students’ Union continued the constitutional review work which was initiated the previous year. The main focus was placed on the structure of the Executive Committee and its functionality. On the 25th of November, Students’ Union Council had their say on the proposal for an amended Executive Committee structure. Class Reps voted in favour of the proposal to bring to students to vote on. 500 signatures have been collected in the meantime and a referendum will be held on Thursday 23rd January for you to vote and have your say.

Election of a Postgraduate Student as a Member of Údarás na hOllscoile

Údaras na hOllscoile is the governing authority of NUI Galway. Nominations are now open for a postgraduate student to become a member of Údarás and nominations close at 12pm on Thurs 23rd of Jan. Nomination forms are available here.

 

Become a 2020/2021 CÉIM Leader
Apply now to become a CÉIM peer learning student leader in 2020/21. Involves meeting weekly with 1st year students to help them transition successfully to NUI Galway, gain a greater understanding of coursework and meet new people. Benefits include: intensive free leadership training, skills development, improved CV, feel good factor of helping 1st years, meeting new people, CÉIM leadership certificate and digital badge, and more. Postgrad International Student Coffee Morning and Panel

International students often struggle to navigate the bureaucracy in a new country. Come and ask all your questions to a panel of international postgrads, who are here to help! Current postgrads are also welcome – there will be a coffee session afterwards to share experiences and meet other international students from other colleges. The event takes place 11am-1pm Thursday 16th of January in The Space upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn.

 

Women’s Self Defence & Mindfulness Class

Chen Tai Chi are offering a special student rate of just €10 per class for their Women’s Self Defence & Mindfulness through Tai Chi course this January. Classes start Tues 28th Jan at 7.45pm at Galway Rowing Club.

 

Clubs’ Day

Clubs’ Day will take place 12pm-4pm Thursday 30th of January in the Kingfisher Sports Hall. Is your new year’s resolution to get fit and active? Then join an NUI Galway Sports cub, with over 50 clubs to choose from we have everything you may need. From Gaelic Games to Martial arts and from Golf to Water Sports we have it all!

 

ALIVE Welcome Workshops

Come along to one of our open sessions to learn more and get started with the community volunteering – projects you will love and anytime that’s right for you!

Workshops take place 5pm Tues 14th Jan, 5pm Thurs 16th Jan, 5pm Mon 20th Jan or 5pm Weds 22nd Jan in the ALIVE Office downstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn.

 

Galway DARE and HEAR Application Information Session

DARE is a third level alternative admissions scheme for school-leavers whose disabilities have had a negative impact on their second level education.

HEAR is a college and university scheme which offers places on reduced points and extra college support to school-leavers from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are resident in the Republic of Ireland.The Galway DARE and HEAR Application Information Sessions take place 10am-2pm this Sat 11th Jan in the Institute for Lifecourse and Society (ILAS), NUI Galway,

Join the NUI Galway Sports Clubs for a massive night to round off the NUIG year! The 2020 Clubs’ Ball will take place from 7pm on Tuesday 24th of March in The Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. Limited number of Early Bird Tickets on sale now for just €32.50! Get yours now before the price goes up to €40. We are now enrolling for our next 10 Week Sign Language courses which are just €40. Options are:

  • Course A: 12pm-1pm Tues 28th Jan – Tues 31st March
  • Course B: 1pm-2pm Tues 28th Jan – Tues 31st March
  • Course C: 6pm-7pm Weds 29th Jan – Weds 1st April
  • Course D: 6pm-7pm Thurs 30th Jan – Thurs 2nd April

8 Week Yoga Course Now Enrolling

Beer Run Back on Sunday

The only free running club that rewards your efforts with a free beer is back this Sunday! Join Galway Bay Brewery Running Club at 12.30pm this Sunday 12th January at the Salthouse for a social 5/8/10km run! All fitness/unfitness levels welcome.
