NUIG Strategic Plan Launch Today

You are invited to the launch of the NUI Galway Strategic Plan 2020-2025 10am-11am TODAY Thurs 19th Dec in the O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance. Refreshments will be served at the launch and afterwards there will be a charity coffee morning from 11am at Sult in aid Oranmore/Maree Search and Rescue.

Working and Travelling Abroad Fair

Start planning your best summer ever! The NUI Galway Working & Travelling Abroad Fair takes place 12pm-3pm Weds 29th of Jan 2020 in Áras na Mac Léinn.

Exhibitors include J1 Visa Companies, Travel Companies, Volunteering/Adventure Companies and Internship/Training Companies.

 

The Wall Café is Closing

The Wall Café is closing at 5pm today Thurs 19th Dec and will be reopening under new management in January 2020. We wish the new operators well, and we thank our customers for their support. Remember, your SU Card and any points accumulated are still valid at our other campus outlets Smokey’s Café, the NUI Galway Students’ Union Shop and Sult.

 

We need your signatures!

We want to hold a referendum in January to restructure and streamline the NUIG SU officer positions. To hold the referendum we need 500 signatures – you can sign up in the SU Mon-Fri 10am-5pm. Postgrad International Student Coffee Morning and Panel

International students often struggle to navigate the bureaucracy in a new country. Come and ask all your questions to a panel of international postgrads, who are here to help! Current postgrads are also welcome – there will be a coffee session afterwards to share experiences and meet other international students from other colleges. The event takes place 11am-1pm Thursday 16th of January in The Space upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn.

 

Smoking On Campus

On campus, smoking and the use of e-cigarettes is prohibited in all buildings and in both Smoke-Free Zones. If you’re planning on joining Ireland’s many non-smokers in 2020, start preparing for all the benefits now – Quit.ie, Tips for Quitting (ICS)

 

Christmas Day Fundraisers in Galway

If you are around Galway on Christmas Day there are two great fundraising events on that will help you earn that Christmas dinner:

Clubs’ Ball Early Bird Tickets On Sale Now!

Join the NUI Galway Sports Clubs for a massive night to round off the NUIG year! The 2020 Clubs’ Ball will take place from 7pm on Tuesday 24th of March in The Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. Limited number of Early Bird Tickets on sale now for just €32.50! Get yours now before the price goes up to €40. Ticket includes: Red Carpet Entrance, Drinks Reception, 3 Course Dinner, DJ, Band, Day 2 entry to Electric and lots more surprises to be announced! Over 18’s event – ID required.

 

Sign Language Now Enrolling

We are now enrolling for our next 10 Week Sign Language courses which are just €40. Options are:

  • Course A: 12pm-1pm Tues 28th Jan – Tues 31st March
  • Course B: 1pm-2pm Tues 28th Jan – Tues 31st March
  • Course C: 6pm-7pm Weds 29th Jan – Weds 1st April
  • Course D: 6pm-7pm Thurs 30th Jan – Thurs 2nd April

8 Week Yoga Course Now Enrolling

  • Beginners/Improvers: 6pm-7.30pm Thurs 16th Jan-Thurs 5th March 2020
  • Intermediate: 7.30pm-9pm Thurs 16th Jan -Thurs 5th March 2020

NUIG Students’ Union presents Neil Delamere: End of Watch at 8pm on Mon 27th of Jan 2020 in the O’Flaherty Theatre NUIG. Tickets €5. All proceeds go to the SU Charities. BUY TICKETS HERE.

NUI Galway Christmas Holidays are from Sat 21st Dec 2019 to Sun 12th of Jan 2020 (inclusive)

Semester 2 Teaching starts on Mon 13th of Jan 2020. Academic Dates for the rest of 2019/20 are available HERE.

  • The Students’ Union Office will close on Fri 20th of Dec and reopen at 10am Tues 7th Jan.
  • The Students’ Union Engineering Desk will reopen at 11am on Mon 13th of Jan.
  • The Students’ Union Cloakroom will close at 6pm on Fri 20th of Dec and reopen at 9am on Thurs 16th of Jan.
  • Sult will close on Fri 20th Dec and will reopen  on Mon 6th Jan.
  • Smokey’s Café will close at 5pm on Fri 20th Jan and reopen Mon 6th Jan.
  • The SU Shop will close at 5pm on Fri 20th Jan and reopen Mon 6th Jan.
  • The Wall Café will close at 5pm on Thurs 19th Dec.
  • The James Hardiman Library will be closed Sat 21st Dec to Weds 1st Jan inclusive.
  • The Reading Room will be closed on Weds 25th and Thurs 26th of Dec.
  • The Student Health Unit will close at 4.30pm on Fri 20th Dec and will reopen Weds 8th Jan.
  • Sin Newspaper will be back with a new issue on Tues 16th of Jan.
  • Flirt FM will close at 5pm Tues 17th Dec and will reopen Thurs 9th Jan.
  • The Socs Box will close on Fri 20th Dec and reopen Mon 6th Jan.
