NUI Galway Students’ Union Charity Christmas Day Thurs 19th November
We are holding a massive Christmas Day fundraiser in the College Bar with BizSoc on Thursday 19th of November to raise money for Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society. There will be traditional Christmas carols, cheesy Christmas tunes with DJ Byrno and lots of prizes for the best/worst Christmas jumpers along with a whole lot of other Festive merriment! Get your tinsel, mistletoe and jumper ready now! 
The official after party will be held in Electric Garden & Theatre and Four/Four that evening to continue the Yuletide vibes. €5 wristbands for the after party are on sale in the SU Office now and all proceeds go to Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society. 

Santa also needs some helper volunteers to assist with the fundraising on the day so if you have an hour or two to spare between 9am and 3pm on Thursday 19th November email studentsunion@nuigalway.ie to sign up and you will definitely be on Santa’s nice list this year.

Examination timetable released Weds 18th Nov

Semester 1 (2015/2016) exams are scheduled for Monday, 7th to Friday, 18th December 2015 (inclusive). Students are expected to be available for exams for the entire duration of the exam session.

The Semester 1 exam timetable will be published on Wednesday, 18th November more details https://www.nuigalway.ie/exams/timetable.html

Please make sure you are correctly registered for your semester one modules otherwise they will not appear on your examinations timetable.

Procrastination Workshop 6pm Weds 18th Nov

Gain control of your time and your life in this FREE two hour workshop 6pm-8pm Weds 18th November in G011 in the James Hardiman Library.

Develop a set of Life-time goals that will help you stay motivated to achieve what’s important to you. Write a practical and useful “To-Do” list. Learn to fill out a workable time-management schedule. Find more time for fun in your life! Places are free so email james.mccormack@nuigalway.ie to register your interest or just show up on the night.

Child Protection Training this Saturday 2 Spaces Available

Due to cancellations we have two spaces available on our Child Protection Training course this Saturday 9.30am-1.30pm. You can sign up and pay €15 course fee in the SU Office or phone 091 524810 to pay by credit card.

ROPES 2016 is Seeking Submissions

ROPES 2016 are now looking for aspiring writers in all disciplines to contribute to our annual literary journal. Our theme is Independence and our charity that we have chosen to support is the Simon Community. Poetry, Prose and Art submissions are all welcome. The deadline for submissions is Friday the 18th December, all contributions to be emailed to ROPES2016.submissions@gmail.com

SCCUL Student Enterprise Awards

The SCCUL Student Enterprise Award has a prize fund of €2,000 sponsored by Winters Property Management.

Entries will be accepted from individuals or teams of up to 4 members. Closing date for entries is Tuesday 1st December.

‘Let’s Talk About Drugs’ National Youth Media Awards Competition €2,000 Prize

This annual drugs education competition aims to help students explore and understand various issues relating to drug and alcohol use in Irish society. To enter, students are asked to create either: a short video, an audio podcast, a news article; or a poster on one of the following themes: (a) The hidden harm of alcohol use; (b) The effects of drug use.

Student Leap Card Vouchers Expire 30th November

Just a reminder that if you have a voucher from AIB for the Student Leap Card that you need to bring it in to us before the 30th of November to get your travelcard for €3. We are open 10am-5pm Monday-Friday and we will take your photo and print the card off straight away. If you don’t have one of the vouchers the Student Leap Card costs €15 and they expire 31st December 2016.

Mindful Responses to the Stresses of Student Life 5.45pm Weds 18th Nov

This free one-hour lecture is open to researchers, students, student counsellors and advisors, healthcare professionals, mindfulness practitioners, and anyone with an interest in mindfulness.
