Get Off the Couch – Get Moving!

There are over 50 sports Clubs ranging from Archery to Athletics, Basketball to Rowing, Mountaineering to Frisbee – their aim is to involve as many students as possible in activity. The Sports Clubs have student led committees who will encourage you to get involved and participate. Each club offers activities, training and social events for all levels and abilities.

Joining a Sports Club should be one of the main objectives of your first semester. Sports Clubs not only offer you the chance to experience new and exciting activities but they also offer you an opportunity to meet new people – new friends. For those students who want to dip in and out of activity there’s a programme called “Get Off the Couch” which offers recreational activity in the form of Fun Runs (yes FUN runs!), Futsal and 5 A Side soccer leagues indoor or outdoor, just play with a group of friends or join one of the many leagues. Recreational activity is central to community life within NUI Galway so regardless of your ability or your energy level there is something for everyone. You will find on the Clubs Website that each club has a profile page where you can check out all of the training and meeting times as well as clubs news & reviews. The “Off The Couch” website is the hub of all recreational activity. Updates on Futsal Leagues & Fun Runs can be found here.

Clubs have a full social calendar attached to their activities which allows you to meet other students from other clubs and institutions. Every one of all abilities is welcome at our clubs.

So Get Off The Couch, Get Active… learn new skills and meet new people!

The Sports Unit office is located in the University Sports Centre Kingfisher Club. If you need any help or support in finding an activity our door is always open! You can join a club or recreational events at any time of the year.
