  • First Aid Responder (FAR) Course (formerly Occupational First Aid Course)

Course Aim:

This three-day course is recognised by PHECC. It is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency first aid in the workplace and in the home. This course is perfect for anyone who hopes to act as first aider in their place of work, community group, voluntary organisation and in the home. It is also a fantastic introduction to emergency care.
The Course Provider is The Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI)

Course Objectives:

Define the First Aider and list their aims

List the 4 responsibilities of the First Aider

List 4 life threatening conditions

List the 3 factors used to make a provisional diagnosis

Describe approach & action at an emergency

List the three primary methods of spreading infection

Describe how to call the emergency services

Describe primary and secondary survey

Course Programme:

Day 1

Introductions: PHECC Education & Training Standards for First Aid Responder Level; Incident Procedure: Cardiac First Responder Course; The Wellbeing of the First Aid Responder.

Day 2

Patient Assessment; Care of the Unconscious Patient; Injury Management and Shock; Burns and Electrical Injury Care.

Day 3

Common Medical Emergencies; Hypothermia and Hyperthermia; Communications; Information Management; FAR Course Written Exam and Remediation; Skills Assessment.

Assessment & Certification:

Independent Assessments / Examinations are held on Day 3 of the course.

The certification now comes from ESTI as a PHECC certificate not a QQI certificate as before. All our instructors are registered with PHECC & OFAAA and our course is run to H.S.A. standards

Cost: €100 (Usual cost €160)

Venue: Meeting Room 1 & 2, upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn 

Time: 9am – 5.30pm

Dates: Fri 14th Feb, Fri 21st Feb and Fri 6th March 2020

Max: 8 students per tutor.
