The Galway Safe app aims to reduce drownings in Galway city by using GPS to detect people lingering beside the water between 12pm-6am. Nominations for the NUI Galway Alumni Awards 2019 Close on Monday.
We invite you to submit a nomination for awards in the fields of the Arts, Business, Engineering, Science, Law, Public Policy and Government, Medicine, Nursing and Contribution to Sport. The broad criteria for selection is that nominees are graduates of NUI Galway who have made an “outstanding contribution in their area of endeavour” in any of the fields above. Nominations will be handled in strict confidence and should include a brief description of the nominee (no more than 20 lines), their achievements and any additional information to support the nomination. To avoid disappointment, please do not disclose your nomination to the nominee. Alumni Award winners will be notified and names of the winners will be made public in the New Year. Deadline for nominations is Monday, November 19th 2018. Submissions to alumni@nuigalway.ie

Learning Disability Support in NUI Galway Survey

Novice Moot Court Competition
Maynooth University Law Society are hosting a Novice Moot Court Competition on the 1st of December and would be delighted to have NUI Galway teams to take part in the competition. Migraine Info Stand 11am-2pm Thurs 8th Nov
The Migraine Association of Ireland (MAI) – Ireland’s only patient charity for migraine sufferers, supporting the estimated 500,000 sufferers in Ireland – will have an information stand at Smokey’s Café 11am-2pm Thursday 8th of November. Migraine is a recognized neurological condition and among the 500,000 sufferers in Ireland, there are an estimated 30,000 chronic sufferers who endure 15 or more migraine attacks per month.

Furthermore it can enhance your employability. Statistics from the Careers Service Graduate Destinations Report indicate that 64% of NUI Galway undergraduates are in employment nine months after graduation. This rises to 87% for postgraduates. Come along to find out about all the taught and research options on offer, including scholarships.

If you’d like to learn more about climate change & communications, take action, share your experiences, and meet like-minded people while taking part in worthwhile events and having some fun, An Taisce want to hear from you! They have dedicated staff who will support you throughout your journey, provide training and organise various events throughout the year for you to attend and also share any of your events through their communication channels. Application deadline is Friday 9th November.

Galway City Council are running a competition asking you to make a Christmas decoration out of recycled material (egg shells, cardboard, newspapers, plastic bottles, milk cartons, old clothes etc.). This year’s World Day of Remembrance Memorial Service will take place in the Clayton Hotel, Galway, at 2pm on Sunday the 18th of November. ’World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims’ gives us an opportunity to remember those who have died on our roads and the families, friends and communities who have been devastated by their loss and also we remember those who have survived with life altering injuries. For thousands of families around the country, their lives are forever changed as a result of a collision.
Milkyboy Kid at the Town Hall Theatre this Friday!
In this new one man show, award winning international choreographer and performer Luke Murphy enters the void and tries to fill the time. Through a mixture of storytelling, film and Murphy’s own virtuosic physicality “The Milkyboy Kid” examines relationships between who you are, who you want to be and who you pretend to be. Luke Murphy is also facilitating a workshop using adaptations of Stanislavski systems to confront physical and emotional states, to examine the relationship between movement, purpose and meaning for both the performer and audience.
