Volunteers Urgently Needed for SU Charity Collection Day This Saturday!

We are looking for volunteers to help out with our SU Annual Charity Collection day on Saturday 3rd February. We will be shaking buckets and convincing the good people of Galway to give us their spare change for Domestic Violence Response & AMACH! Please email studentsunion@nuigalway.ie if you can help out at any of the following times 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm or 3pm -5pm.

  • Nominations for the three full time paid SU Officer positions of President, Vice-President/Education Officer and Vice-President/Welfare Officer open at 10am on Thursday 22nd of February.
  • Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday 28th of February.
  • The Election will take place on Thursday 8th of March.

SU Charity Croagh Patrick Climb – Just 10 Spaces Left!
The NUI Galway Students’ Union Charity Croagh Patrick Climb takes place on Saturday 17th of February in conjunction with NUIG Mountaineering Club. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of €40 to take part and all proceeds will go to the SU Charities: Domestic Violence Response & AMACH!

SHAG Week Comedy Hypnotist Tickets on Sale

Following his sold out semester 1 gig we are delighted to announce that hilarious hypnotist Michael McCoy is back at 8pm on Monday 12th February in the O’Flaherty Theatre. Tickets are just €5 from the SU/SU Engineering Desk and all proceeds from the gig will be going to Draíocht NUI Galway. This is part of our SHAG Week events so this show is not for the easily offended – you have been warned!

 

Galway Diabetic Running Club 

Great opportunity to get active 2-3 times a week in a supportive environment which caters to individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

 

Rowing Spinning Classes

NUI Galway Rowing Club are starting a new fitness class on Tuesdays at 6pm in the rowing club for just €3 per session. All are welcome!

NUI Galway Postgraduate Open Day Tues 6th Feb in Áras na Mac Léinn

The event will run from 12noon to 3pm, with short presentations taking place during the day also, covering such topics as funding opportunities, applications, and research. SUSI (Grants Authority) will also be in attendance. There will be over 60 stands on display, so this is your opportunity to meet lecturers and postgraduate students, see what postgraduate programmes are on offer, and to meet staff from Postgraduate Admissions, Career Development Centre, Graduate Studies, Research Office, and other student support services. NUIG Free STI Clinic every Tues & Weds

The free STI Clinic is in the Student Health Unit in Áras na Mac Léinn every Tuesday & Wednesday evening 5pm-7pm. The clinic is by appointment only on a first come, first served basis. Remember you can pick up FREE condoms from the SU Office or the SU Engineering Desk all year long.

“Prevention is better than cure”, a quantitative study exploring undergraduate university students’ knowledge, perceived importance and self-efficacy of cancer prevention behaviours.

The proposed study aims to explore knowledge of cancer prevention behaviours among undergraduate students and to identify perceived importance of cancer prevention. The research also aims to determine if undergraduate students are engaging in cancer prevention behaviours.

Join Seas Suas! Registration Deadline 6pm TODAY

Seas Suas is a training programme which promotes the health and wellbeing of students. The training offers the opportunity to increase awareness about challenging situations and helps students to develop skills to successfully deal with such challenges. This semester the Seas Suas Training Programme focuses on a number of interesting topics including, Developing Positive Mental Health, Practical Tips for Internet Safety, Cyberbullying, Developing Digital Skills and How to Become a Digital Champion. The training takes place on 6.30pm-8.30pm Tues 6th & Tue 13th of Feb in MY243 Áras Moyola and includes a FREE dinner each evening.
