Welcome to your Weekly Email from your Students’ Union.

Financial Aid Fund Applications Now Open

Applications close 12 noon Monday 2nd November and you must apply online here.

Students following a full time course of at least one year’s duration leading to an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification can apply to the fund.  

Students are only eligible to apply once in the academic year to the Financial Aid Fund. More information is available here.

If you have any queries please contact the Financial Aid Fund on  financialaid@nuigalway.ie

For students who are having difficulty accessing the form or need assistance filling it out, there will be information clinics on Monday 19th October, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st October 1pm – 3pm in the Arts Faculty PC Suite. The Arts Faculty suite (Room 229a), is located on the first floor on the main Concourse. It’s on the way to the Careers Office and Archaeology.

Deadline for EXPLORE Innovation funding: Tuesday, 20th October 2015
Want to work in partnership with staff to turn an innovative idea into reality? Make sure to submit an application to EXPLORE by Tuesday 20th October. Up to €900 available per project. Comedy Hypnotist Tickets on Sale NOW!

Following our sold out David O’Doherty gig we are delighted to announce that our next €5 Comedy gig is hilarious hypnotist Michael McCoy at 8pm on Monday 2nd November in the O’Flaherty Theatre. This is part of our SHAG Week 2015 events so this show is not for the easily offended – you have been warned! 
Tickets are €5 and are on sale now from the SU Office (Mon-Fri 10am-5pm) or the SU Engineering Desk (Mon-Fri 11am-3pm). Credit card sales by phone to 091 524810.

We now have €10 NUI Galway Student tickets on sale for Connacht vs Zebre 7.30pm Friday 16th October. Tickets on sale from the SU Office (Mon-Fri 10am-5pm) and SU Engineering Desk (Mon-Fri 11am-3pm)

India Soc Bollywood Night this Friday

NUIG India Society are hosting a Bollywood DJ dance party from 7pm this Friday 16th October in the College Bar. Admission is free and all funds raised will go to the Students’ Union charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society.

The Financial Aid Fund for is now open for Semester 1 2015/16.  

Students following a full time course of at least one year’s duration leading to an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification can apply to the fund.  

Students are only eligible to apply once in the academic year to the Financial Aid Fund.  The University’s decision on your application is final. 

Part time students, Erasmus students, and students following foundation courses are not eligible to apply for assistance under this fund. 

The Financial Aid Fund and Fee Consideration Application Form is available at: https://www.nuigalway.ie/student_services/financialaidfund.html 

Please read the instructions carefully before filling out the form.   

Please note the following important dates: 

  • Applications Open 8th October 
  • Applications Close Monday 2nd November at 12.00 noon 
  • Students emailed about the outcome of the decision on their application Monday 23rd November 
  • Deadline for SAF Form 1 and supporting documentation (Note: if documentation is not received by this date the offer of funding ceases) Thursday 3rd December by 3.00p.m. 
  • Payment of allocated funds Friday 18th December

NUI Galway Hardiman Research Scholarship scheme for PhD students now open

The Hardiman Research Scholarships and Dr Tony Ryan Research Scholarships are fully funded for four years, with a stipend of €16,000 p.a. plus fees. The Scholarships offer opportunities for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a Structured PhD focused on the five key areas of research in which the University offers leading expertise. These are:

  • Applied Social Sciences and Public Policy
  • Biomedical Science and Engineering
  • Environment, Marine, and Energy
  • Humanities in Context, including Digital Humanities
  • Informatics, Data Analytics, Physical and Computational Sciences
