My name is Jimmy McGovern, and I have the privilege of being your Students' Union President for 2016/17. I am from Westmeath, studied Mathematics, Sociology & Politics and last year I was the Vice President / Welfare Officer of the SU. I am passionate about mental health, quality of life and opportunity to access support. My job this year is to lead a team in the SU that represents you and ensures your best interests are met as a student. Any issue that affects your wellness, your studies or prevents your student experience from reaching its full potential, is an issue you should address. So if you need help - "Ask Your SU". The SU is run by students, for students, and there is limitless potential to improve campus life. But we need your input. So volunteer, get involved, be active and make the most of your time in college. I look forward to meeting you all this year. Take care my friends and stay safe!

The President co-ordinates the activities of the Students’ Union and works with University Management to achieve the best academic environment and quality of life for NUI Galway students. The President is responsible for the finances of the Union, for co-ordinating Union campaigns during the year and acts as chief spokesperson for the Union. If you feel things could be done better or if you can identify an area in which improvement is needed within the University, then talk to Jimmy.
