We are holding a massive Christmas Day fundraiser in the College Bar with BizSoc TODAY to raise money for Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society. There will be traditional Christmas carols, cheesy Christmas tunes with DJ Byrno, a full turkey dinner and a whole lot of other Festive merriment! Get your tinsel, mistletoe and jumper ready now!
The official after party will be held in Electric Garden & Theatre and Four/Four TONIGHT to continue the Yuletide vibes. €5 wristbands for the after party are on sale in the SU Office now and all proceeds go to Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Irish Cancer Society.

Extra EXPLORE Funding now available for Undergrad projects
Explore – NUI Galway’s staff/student innovation initiative received a large number of high-quality applications for the 2015-2016 academic year. Targeted funding is now currently available to support three additional EXPLORE projects from NUI Galway undergraduate students and their staff partners. Apply by noon on Monday, 23rd November 2015.

Student Leap Card Vouchers Expire 30th November
Just a reminder that if you have a voucher from AIB for the Student Leap Card that you need to bring it in to us before the 30th of November to get your travelcard for €3. We are open 10am-5pm Monday-Friday and we will take your photo and print the card off straight away. If you don’t have one of the vouchers the Student Leap Card costs €15 and they expire 31st December 2016.

AIDS West World AIDS Day Memorial Concert 7pm Tuesday 1st December

Simon Cumbers Media Fund Student Scheme 2016
Applications are now being accepted for the Simon Cumbers Media Fund Student Scheme 2016. The Scheme invites students across Ireland to apply to research and report on a particular issue in developing countries. It awards students with funding to travel to these countries to produce media projects focusing on development issues. The NUI Galway Postgraduate Open Day will take place on Wednesday, 11th November 2015 in the Bailey Allen Hall (Student Centre/Áras na Mac Leinn).
The event will run from 12pm-4pm, with short presentations taking place during the day also, covering such topics as funding opportunities, applications, and research.

Repeat Exam Results 2015
Good luck to everyone getting exam results over the next few weeks.
Undergrad Repeat Results: 2nd Sitting (Autumn Results) will be released at 4pm on Wednesday 2nd September 2015.
Postgrad Repeat Results: 2nd Sitting (Autumn Results) will be released on Tuesday 15th September 2015. Winter results will be released on 22nd October 2015.

Undergrad Results for Semester 1 & Semester 2 will be released online between Tuesday 9th and Friday 19th June 2015.
Postgrad Results will be released on Tuesday 30th June 2015.
Repeats:
Where ‘Fail’, ‘Incomplete’ or ‘Deferred’ appears as the Overall result on your transcript of results, you will be automatically registered to take any written modules for the Autumn (Repeat) session of examinations.
Repeat exams are scheduled 4th-14th August 2015. The Fee for sitting repeat exams is €195. The Repeat Exam schedule will be available online at 3pm on Thursday 9th July 2015.

The paperwork is all done now it’s time for the real leg work to begin! If you want to make sure that the Marriage Equality Referendum passes on Friday 22nd of May here’s some ways to help:
1. Go Canvassing! Yes Equality Galway are canvassing across the city every evening and in town on the weekend. To get involved just get in touch with them or just turn up to help out.
2. Go Talking! Yes Meeting for Marriage Equality 7pm TONIGHT Thursday 7th May in Galway Arts Centre, Dominick Street. More information.
3. Go Marching! Galway will March for Marriage Equality 3pm Saturday 16th of May organised by Yes Equality. More Information

The SUSI Grant Application System will open on 23 April, 2015
SUSI will open its online grant application system for the 2015/16 academic year on Thursday, 23 April, 2015, two weeks earlier than last year.

Want to earn €10?
We are running a driving study using our brand new simulator all this week and next in the Arts Millennium Building Extension. It takes just under 1 hour to complete, and will involve a number of simple drives using the simulator and a few short questionnaires in between. You will receive €10 payment for taking part!
To do so, you need a full, Irish driving license, to be aged between 18-24, have insurance and use a smartphone. To arrange a time slot, please contact Aoife at a.kervick1@nuigalway.ie. Testing times in the evening and on weekends can also be arranged. Thank you!

Photo Competition
Fascination of Plants Day is a global initiative with events held in over 50 countries to promote the importance of plants at many levels. The Geec Launch 12pm-2pm Tues 21st April at Engineering Building
On 21 April, 2015, we will launch the Galway energy-efficient car – the Geec – nationally before we ship it to Rotterdam for Shell Eco-marathon Europe in May. Dr James Browne, President of NUI Galway, will join us as we unveil the new and improved Geec 1.1. We will present the engineering and driving team, reveal results of energy-efficiency testing, and share our enthusiasm for this project with anybody who would like to learn about it.
Finally, we will be taking the opportunity to say a big thank you to all of the technical and academic staff who helped with this, and all of our partners and supporters. We are delighted to let you know that Eoin McKeon, Connacht Rugby number 8, and recent NUIG Mechanical Engineering Graduate, will be unveiling the Geec at our launch. We are still looking for a Mature Students Officer, a Convenor of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences and a Clubs’ Captain to join the Students’ Union team for 2015/16. The election of these final 3 officers will take place on Thursday 16th April 11am-4pm at Smokey’s Café. Please bring your College ID with you to vote.
Please note that only Clubs’ Captains can vote in the Clubs Captain election and only students from the School of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences can elect their convenor. All registered students can vote in the Mature Students Officer election.
If you won’t be on campus to vote on Thursday there will be a Remote Vote option available and registration for this will open shortly on the SU Website (does not apply to Clubs’ Captain Election).

Congratulations to Sean Mc Garry, a 3rd year NUI Galway student studying Physics with Advanced French for Science from Westport Co. Mayo, who has won the top prize of €10,000 in this year’s NUI Galway Students’ Union Enterprise Awards. His company, “The TidyShower Co.”, has designed a range of contemporary bathroom accessories which solely focus on minimizing clutter and maximizing experience, thereby helping to breathe joy back into your shower time.
The two runner-up prizes of €5,000 each were awarded to “The Creative Native” and “Safe Farming Solutions”.
“The Creative Native” is a business development idea to create innovative digital educational resources for the modern learner. “The Creative Native” team consists of two final year PhD students, Eilis Flanagan from Donegal and Ali Mc Namara from Limerick.
“Safe Farming Solutions” consists of a newly designed bolt that aims to improve farm safety and convenience when attaching machinery onto tractors. Aaron Duignan a 4th year student studying Corporate Law (International) from Carrick on Shannon in County Leitrim is the creator of “Safe Farming Solutions”.
Well done to everyone who took part in the competition this year!

So unfortunately David has to go over to America and teach a Zumba class in the White House BUT the show must go on so we have the wonderful Al Porter, who just sold out 3 nights in Vicar Street, in as a very able, funny, David O’Doherty replacement. Easter Holidays Update
- Lectures/Teaching: There will be no lectures/teaching on the following dates: Monday 30th March, Tuesday 31st March, Wednesday 1st April, Wednesday 8th April, Thursday 9th April & Friday 10th April. Easter Holidays are Thursday 2nd April to Tuesday 7th April inclusive. Please note that students of the school of Medicine, Nursing & Health Science should consult their school calendar here.
- Field Trips: Field Trips where relevant will take place between Monday 30th March-Wednesday 1st April and Wednesday 8th April-Friday 10th April.

Attention PhD students nearing completion of theses – University Write-up Bursaries
A limited number of write-up bursaries are being offered to address the problems being encountered by PhD students who are near to completing their theses yet who find themselves, for whatever reason, without funding. These write-up bursaries will be tenable for up to a three-month period and will be worth €1,000 per month. Completed applications (application form and form B) must be received by the College office on or before 17:00 Friday, 1st May 2015.
