NUI Galway Students’ Union Equality Week 2017

Mon 16th Oct

11am-2pm “Creating Inclusion” the official launch event for Social Inclusion Week in Tribeton, Merchants Road, Galway

12pm-2pm Look out for the EqualiTeam in green t-shirts handing out rainbow badges all around campus to show support to the LGBT+ community.

8:15pm – 9:15pm Talk on Marriage Equality in the North in AC202. Discussion about issues faced by people living in Northern Ireland alongside brainstorming on how we can help.

Tues 17th Oct

12pm-2pm Equality Week disability information stand at Smokey’s Café. Call up for a chat.

7pm-9pm Writer’s Soc/Fem Soc collaboration in the Dillon Theatre. Rewrite/personalise your favourite stories to bring a little more diversity to today’s popular fiction! Take your favourite stories and remake the characters to be more inclusive.

Weds 18th Oct

1pm-5pm ”Step outside your defining box” to see beyond the ”labels” and celebrate everyone’s diversity. Meeting point at Galway Yellow, outside the Arts/Science concourse. Then, we will paint our hands in different colours and print them on a sheet. Messages of welcome to refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and international students can be written on the handprints.

Thurs 19th Oct

12pm-2pm Look out for the EqualiTeam in green t-shirts who will be handing out Repeal the 8th Amendment badges. Stop us to ask any questions.

5pm Choice Soc will have speakers talking about why they are pro-choice and what repealing the 8th Amendment means to them. All are welcome in AC201.

7pm-till late A Stevening with Steven Sharpe & Steve Bennett at Sult. FREE Admission, songs, comedy, games, guests and surprises.

Meet your Community Gardaí at Smokey’s this Wednesday 1.30pm-2.30pm

Our Community Gardaí will be in Smokey’s Café this Wednesday 18th October 1.30pm-2.30pm and they are happy to talk to students about any issues you may be having. This includes crime prevention advice, personal safety, antisocial behaviour, new bylaws in Galway City in relation to drinking in public places etc.

 

Registrations for the European Youth Event (EYE2018) are now open

Do you want to find solutions for the future of Europe together with 8,000 young people from all over the continent? Register for the EYE2018 and come to Strasbourg on 1-2 June 2018.

Only group registrations of minimum 10 people are accepted and they are open until 31 December 2017 or until the maximum capacity is reached (8,000 participants). You can find all information in the Take part! section of the EYE website.

Student Leap Cards Back

Our Student Leap Card machine is working again so you can now get your Leap Card in the SU Office Monday-Friday 10am-5pm for just €10 and we take your photo for you. Just bring your student ID card. Card is valid until 31st December 2018.

 

Global Lounge

The Global Lounge will be taking place this Saturday 14th of October in The Hub, Áras na Mac Léinn from 12pm-3pm. This is a place for students to call in, relax, enjoy FREE tea/coffee, biscuits, and other delicious treats, and get to meet new people! This week we will be playing Cards Against Humanity so join us for some fun!

FREE Cloakroom Open Today!

The SU FREE Cloakroom is open every Thursday & Friday 9am-6pm this semester. It’s located beside the Students’ Union XL Shop near the Bialann.

Invite to Creating Inclusion Event

Creating Inclusion is the official launch event for Social Inclusion Week on Monday 16th October from 11am to 2pm in Tribeton, Merchants Road, Galway City. Events include: sign & sing choir, Gamelan experience, sensory friendly exhibition, exploration of Irish sign language, sensory friendly exhibition and guest speakers. All are welcome.
