Life Skills Sign Up Open

Spaces are filling up fast for our Life Skills Courses for this year. You can sign up in the SU Office or phone 091 493 570 to register with credit/debit card for:

SU Outdoor Cinema Monday 10th September

Our SU Outdoor Cinema is back (weather depending) at 8pm this Monday 10th of September outside the Engineering Building. There will be FREE popcorn for the first 100 people and you can vote on our Facebook page for the film you want us to show. Make sure you bring something to sit on and don’t bring any alcohol or you will be asked to leave.

 

Crisis Campout

We are holding a Crisis Campout in Eyre Square on Tuesday the 11th of September to call attention to the need for the Government to act on the National Accommodation crisis. We need affordable student purpose built accommodation in order to alleviate this crisis.

 

Learn To Swim & Lifeguard Course

Together with the Swimming Club we will be offering 12 week Beginners and Intermediate Swimming Lessons at a reduced rate for NUI Galway Students this semester. There will also be a 12 Week Lifeguard Course which includes First Aid Training. If you are interested in either of these courses email studentsunion@nuigalway.ie ASAP for more information.

SU Freshers’ Fair Tuesday 18th September

The NUI Galway Students’ Union Freshers’ Fair is back with ALL THE FREEBIES! Call down to Áras na Mac Léinn 11am-4pm Tuesday 18th of September for giant inflatable games, food, freebies, tunes and competitions.

You need to register at www.su.nuigalway.ie and pay online and collect your key from the SU Office 10am-5pm Monday-Friday. Please note if you’ve booked a locker in Áras Moyola or the Engineering Building you collect your key from the SU desk in the Engineering building 11am-3pm Monday-Friday.

Get your FREE SU Diary and handbook from the SU Office, the SU Engineering Desk and outside the SU Shop. We also have FREE Flirt FM Wall Planners for you while stocks last!

 

NUIG Free STI Clinic

The free STI Clinic will reopen in the Student Health Unit in Áras na Mac Léinn from the week of the 10th of September. The clinic is by appointment only phone 091 492 604 to book. Remember you can pick up FREE condoms from the SU Office or the SU Engineering Desk all year long.

Please note that all purchasers will have to show valid student ID on the night to gain entry to the match at the Sportsground on College Road, failure to do this will result in payment of the difference.

 

Want to Join the Students’ Union Officer Team?

Applications open at 10am on Thursday 13th of September for the new SU Officer position of Ethnic Minorities Officer. Application forms will be available from the SU Office and SU Website and must be returned before 5pm on Wednesday 19th of September to the box in the SU Office. The election will take place on Thursday 27th of September.

 

SU Comedy Gig 8pm Monday 24th September €5

NUI Galway Students’ Union presents Alison Spittle and Kevin McGahern at 8pm on Monday 24th of September in the O’Flaherty Theatre. Tickets are €5 and are on sale now from the SU Office (Mon-Fri 10am-5pm) and the SU Engineering Desk (Mon-Fri 11am-3pm).

 

Apply Online for your Student Leap Card Now

Apply online now for your shiny new Student Leap Card and upload your photo. You can then call to the Students’ Union office upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday with your code, your ID and €10 to collect your card. These are valid until the 31st of December 2019.

Class Representatives

Every class is entitled to a Class Representative to represent their class. If your class does not have a Class Rep your voice will not be heard. If you have any questions on the roles and responsibilities of a Class Rep contact the SU Vice-President/Education Officer Louis at su.education@nuigalway.ie. Further information regarding the role of Class Reps is also available in the SU Council section of our website here.

 

Financial Aid Fund opens on Monday

The Financial Aid Fund is intended to tackle disadvantage by providing financial support to students who require financial support to enable them to fully benefit from their third level studies. 

Semester 1 Financial Aid Fund Online Applications open on Monday 10th of September and close at 12 noon on Monday 1st OctoberMore information.

Get your free SU Card and earn points or free products every time you shop with us. Your SU Card can be used in any Students’ Unions outlet: Sult, Students’ Union Shop, Smokey’s Café, The Wall Café, Caifé na Gaeilge. Clubs Day

Clubs Day is coming up 10am-4pm Tuesday 11th of September in the Sports Centre with over 50 Sports Clubs for you to join. NUI Galway Sport are also now on Snapchat! Add nuigsport to see what they are up to, what great events they have on and what the clubs are doing.

 

Chinese Course at NUI Galway

A 20 week evening course, An Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture, will commence in NUI Galway on Wednesday 19th September 2018.  Classes will run one night a week from 7pm to 9pm.  The fee is €120 for students. The course is designed for people with no Chinese language basics but who have a strong interest in China or who travel or do business in China.  It covers not only the Chinese language basics but also a brief introduction to the history of China, Chinese philosophies, customs and traditions, Chinese protocol and business etiquette, Chinese food and wine, Chinese medicine and the concepts of Fengsui and yinyang.
