The NUI Galway Working and Travelling Abroad Fair 2018 will help you to plan the best summer ever! The Fair will take place 12pm-3pm on Wednesday 24th January in Áras na Mac Léinn with talks 12pm-8pm. Exhibitors include: J1 Visa companies, travel companies, volunteering/adventure companies, internships/training companies and there will be delicious food stalls to fill your belly as you plan your summer!

Volunteers Needed for SU Charity Collection Day Sat 3rd Feb
We are looking for volunteers to help out with our SU Annual Charity Collection day on Saturday 3rd February. We will be shaking buckets and convincing the good people of Galway to give us their spare change for Domestic Violence Response & AMACH! March with NUI Galway Students’ Union against Direct Provision
NUI Galway Students’ Union invites you to march with us against the Direct Provision system currently operating in Galway and around the country. At 1pm on Saturday 20th of January we will assemble at the Eglinton Direct Provision Centre in Salthill and march to the Great Western Direct Provision Centre off Eyre Square. SU Charity Croagh Patrick Climb – Just 40 Spaces Available!
The NUI Galway Students’ Union Charity Croagh Patrick Climb takes place on Saturday 17th of February in conjunction with NUIG Mountaineering Club. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of €40 to take part and all proceeds will go to the SU Charities: Domestic Violence Response & AMACH!

Would you like to be a part of our Students for Choice Taskforce? Applications are now open
This Taskforce will feed into the national Union of Students in Ireland (USI) Students for Choice Taskforce, and will campaign on and off campus for a Repeal of the 8th amendment. It will comprise of 8-12 members and will also have a separate group of volunteers.
NUI Galway Students’ Union has a mandate to be Pro Choice following referenda held by the Student body in 2013, and again in 2014.

Flirt FM Galway’s only alternative and student radio station will be running free induction sessions for anyone interested in getting involved. Induction Sessions (duration: 60 min) will take place 6pm Monday 22nd of January and 7pm Monday 29th of January in the Large Acoustic Room, Áras na Mac Léinn.
All welcome along to the introduction to the ALIVE workshops. Includes: how to get started community volunteering in Galway; how to apply for the annual award from the President; and what to expect with volunteering. 5pm & 6pm Monday 22nd of January and repeated 5pm & 6pm Tuesday 23rd of January in the View upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn.
ALIVE and the Mature Students Offices have teamed up to bring NUI Galway students a unique opportunity for a travel scholarship for summer 2018. Applicants should have extensive experience in volunteering and engaging with communities and be interested in learning from international community projects.
Applications are now open for the third annual Galway regional heat of the FameLab International “Talking Science” Competition which will take place in in An Taibhdhearc Theatre on Thursday the 1st of March. Competitors have three minutes to speak (without slides) to a general audience about any scientific topic. The top two contestants in the Galway heat will be invited to a weekend Science Communication Masterclass in Dublin on March 24th-25th, and will compete in the FameLab Ireland final on Thursday April 12th at the Science Gallery in Dublin. The winner will represent Ireland at the FameLab international finals at the Cheltenham Science Festival.
All members of the NUI Galway STEM community are invited to consider participating in the Galway heat and a training session will take place on Feb 7th, 6pm. The deadline for entering the competition is 16th of Feb.
Invitation to FREE Premiere Screening of Unrest
You are cordially invited to the free Galway premiere screening of the International award-winning film, Unrest, which will be taking place 5pm-7.30pm on Tuesday 16th January in the ILAS Auditorium, NUIG. The film, which is about Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) is being screened as part of a worldwide awareness raising campaign, #TimeforUnrest. Refreshments will be offered before and after the screening.
If you are aged between 15-30 years old and are interested in getting involved in making a positive change in Ireland and Europe sign up before Mon 22nd Jan to attend this meeting of young people to contribute thoughts and ideas to the new EU Youth Strategy.
There will also be an opportunity to apply and become one of the Irish delegation to the next EU Youth Conference in Bulgaria 16 – 19 April 2018.
Repeal the 8th IADTSU Taskforce Exhibition Open Call 2018
Open call for an exhibition of art related to and in support of the current Repeal the 8th campaign. Applicants must be in attendance of a USI institute. Works will be chosen by a panel. Works can be in any medium, paint, film, mixed media, sculpture, photography, performance, installation, writing, etc.

The University of Notre Dame has opened its annual competition for the Naughton Fellowships
The prestigious international fellowships provide funding for exceptional Ph.D., masters, or undergraduate students with an aptitude for the STEM disciplines to complete research or study at Notre Dame. Applications are due by Thursday, March 1, 2018
