This three-day certified course is designed to provide the participants with the necessary skills to provide first aid in the workplace and deal with injury emergencies at work. The Course Provider is The Emergency Services Training Institute.
Course Objectives:
Define the First Aider and list their aims
List the 4 responsibilities of the First Aider
List 4 life threatening conditions
List the 3 factors used to make a provisional diagnosis
Describe approach & action at an emergency
List the three primary methods of spreading infection
Describe how to call the emergency services
Describe primary and secondary survey
Course Programme:
Day 1
Responsibilities of the First Aider ; Diagnosis & principles of treatment; The nervous system; Head injuries; Shock – Fainting; Unconsciousness; Patient Approach; Examination of the casualty; Recovery position; Asphyxia and its causes; CPR & AED – practical; Examination of the eye; Treatment of foreign bodies; Poisoning; Chemical splashes
Day 2
Burns & scalds; Blood & circulation; Wounds and bleeding; Control of bleeding; Dressings and bandages; Fractures – causes, types, signs, symptoms; Sprains, strains and dislocation; Handling & Transport – incl. improvisation; General rules for treatment; Crush Injuries; Corrosive injuries
Day 3
Dressing & bandaging fractures; Revision – practical examination on any subject; Epilepsy, Asthma and Diabetes; Emergency First-aid kits: Contents.
Examination – practical incident to treat cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Bandages, slings and transport are introduced & practised throughout course.
Assessment & Certification:
Independent Assessments / Examinations are held on Day 3 of the course.
Our Occupational First Aid Courses are certified at FETAC Level 5.
Occupational First Aid Certificates are valid for 2 years.
All our instructors are registered with PHECC & OFAAA and our course is run to H.S.A. standards
Cost: €100 (Usual cost €160)

Time: 9am – 5.30pm
Dates: Friday 5th February, Friday 12th February & Friday 19th February 2016. You must attend all 3 days.
Max: 10 students per tutor.
