Graphic Designer | Dearthóir Grafaicí
NUI Galway Students’ Union is currently seeking a Graphic Designer who will be responsible for the conceptualisation and implementation of design solutions that meet marketing and promotion strategies from concept to completion. This is an exciting and hands-on role in a fast-paced environment which will require the successful applicant to utilise the full range of their design capabilities from event promotion and marketing to corporate design and website editing.

This is initially a 11 month fixed term contract.
Requirements

At least 2-3 years’ experience of working in design area, preferably with relevant qualifications.
Strong design skills in InDesign, Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat.
Demonstrated experience in using WordPress.
High technical proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Highly motivated with an ability to multi-task and work well in a team as well as using your own initiative.
Working knowledge of online advertising technologies and modern design trends.
Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for delivering high quality work.
Desire to keep abreast of trends, new applications and introduce new ideas and concepts.
An understanding of bilingual design.
An interest in, or willingness to learn, the Irish language.
Online multimedia marketing experience.
Video editing and / or production experience.

SIN EDITOR

Sin Newspaper is the official Student Newspaper of NUI Galway. A fortnightly publication published by the Students’ Union, the paper includes a mix of campus news, features, sport and reviews.

Sin.ie is the online information resource of NUI Galway Students’ Union. The website will include up to date news and features and will be a comprehensive information and resource centre for NUI Galway students with regards to college and local news in particular.

The Sin Editor will be a self starter who works well with others and has particular strengths in working with, and motivating a team of volunteers.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit, direct and motivate a team of voluntary sub editors and writers.
  • Overall responsibility for sourcing newspaper and website content
  • Maintain a high standard of writing in both Sin Newspaper and Sin Website
  • Edit 12 issues of Sin Newspaper in conjunction with the Students’ Union
  • Update Sin.ie website and social media platforms regularly with news, features etc
  • Work with the Graphic Designer to ensure consistent design and layout.
  • Develop links with other student publications to facilitate sharing of information and resources
  • Oversee distribution of Sin Newspaper across campus
  • Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time

Remuneration

€500 stipend per issue.
