Pushers needed for the Macnas Halloween Parade Sunday 26th October
Macnas is taking to the streets again this year on Sunday 26th October for their biggest event of the year: the Macnas Halloween Parade. They’ll be putting on a street-hopping, traffic-stopping party with a host of new giants, performance, bespoke costume, live original music and our award-winning design. But to get their giants up town they need pushers which is a great way to get involved and see the parade from the unique perspective of within, without having to put yourself front and centre (if that’s not your thing). You’ll get ear plugs, gloves and the chance to meet other groovy, helpful people while seeing the crowd’s faces and hearing their comments and cheers close-up. You will be the unsung hero of this year’s parade (until later, when we will indeed sing for you!).
If you are interested in being part of this year’s parade as a pusher, please email roisin@macnas.com with your name, phone number and confirming that you are available on Sunday 26th October and are in good physical condition for this role.

Ever feel anxious about public speaking or meeting people…?
September will see the launch of the new and improved NUI Galway Participate online programme – a resource for anyone dealing with shyness or social anxiety. Whether it’s just difficulty with public speaking that’s holding you back, or a more general issue with meeting people, this will be worth checking out.
Participate uses cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques. Similar programmes have been run successfully in NUI Galway and elsewhere in the past. Students who sign up also get a personal tutor. Your tutor will check in with you online every week to help make sure that the programme is working for you.
All students of NUI Galway will be e-mailed with a link to the Participate website in September. You can visit the site, test your social anxiety, and see how it works. This is also a research programme, so if you join you will be contributing to something that will help others, as well as yourself!

The 10 Minute Cycle Challenge runs from the 7th – 27th May and we are looking for NUI Galway teams to participate!
Get together with friends and colleagues to form a team of 3-6 people and try to clock up as many trips on a bicycle as possible, each journey must be at least 10 minutes long to count.
To keep the Challenge competitive each team must have a ‘new cyclist’ (someone who hasn’t cycled in the past six months). If a team doesn’t have a new cyclist they can still take part but won’t be eligible for prizes.
To register your team visit www.smartertravelworkplaces.ie/cycle-challenge/
