Mental Health Week – #LittleThings Competition Winner

Congratulations to Collette Mulkeen the winner of our #LittleThings competition who won a pair of tickets to our sold out Neil Delamere gig. Her #LittleThings Mental Health tips were:

  1. A walk in the evening after lectures all day long is good therapy – take 20mins out of your evening and walk alone or with a friend to clear your head and take in some fresh air!
  2. Get outdoors! – we are so lucky to have a beautiful campus with stunning walkways. The local Galway people use our campus for peaceful walks  – go and explore and get some fresh air.
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask for help – there are so many facilities and services on campus to listen and advise you whenever you need help. ASK for help!

Christmas in November and a Llama as NUI Galway Students’ Union launch year of Fundraising!

News & Events

NUI Galway Students’ Union will be supporting Threshold and the RNLI this year. Every year the Students’ Union selects two charities that benefit from its fundraising initiatives. This year’s fundraising events will include a Christmas Day fundraiser in November and a pet farm visit with star of the show Kuzco the Llama in December!

Students’ Union President Jimmy McGovern said: “We are delighted to be supporting two very worthy charities this year. Students in NUI Galway have a very proud tradition of fundraising for charity. We hope to improve on last year’s total of €22,500 raised during the year”

Threshold works to prevent homelessness and campaigns for housing as a right.

Diarmaid O’Sullivan of Threshold said: “Threshold is delighted to have been selected as one of the charities to benefit from NUI Galway Students’ Union fundraising activities for the 2016/7 academic year. The funds raised will help Threshold keep families in their homes and prevent homelessness.”

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea.

Mike Swan, Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM) at Galway Lifeboat Station said: “We’re so thankful to the NUI Galway Students’ Union for choosing us as one of their two charities this year. There are so many organisations doing good work in the volunteering and charity sector and we are honoured to be singled out by the Students’ Union. Some of our volunteer crew are students and graduates of Galway colleges so we are all delighted to benefit from the SU’s excellent fundraising initiatives this academic year and we’re looking forward to working with them.”

Summer is over and it’s back to the grindstone. Those aches and pains that you didn’t feel all summer are suddenly back with a vengeance. Hours at a desk and the pressure of assignments will do that. But what can we do to manage tension and stress? Good posture, regular exercise and a healthy diet will all help but sometimes we just want someone to get in there with a thumb or an elbow to work out those stubborn knots.

#MondayMassage offers treatments at an affordable rate to NUI Galway staff and students. Choose from acupuncture, massage, physical therapy and shiatsu. Book yourself in for a treatment, your body will thank you for it!

Neil Delamere – The Neil Delta
Following sold out shows last year, the master of mirth is back with his own unique brand of his irreverent humour. 2016 was another busy year for the perennially popular star of the Blame Game, which celebrates its 10th birthday on TV this year. With that, a science comedy series for RTE2 and his radio show on Today FM under his belt, now he is back to where it all started, talking to strangers in rooms for money.

#MondayMassage

Summer is over and it’s back to the grindstone. Those aches and pains that you didn’t feel all summer are suddenly back with a vengeance. Hours at a desk and the pressure of assignments will do that… But what can we do manage tension and stress? Good posture, regular exercise and a healthy diet will all help but sometimes we just want someone to get in there with a thumb or an elbow to work out those stubborn knots.

#MondayMassage offers treatments at an affordable rate to NUI Galway staff and students. Choose from acupuncture, massage, physical therapy and shiatsu. Book yourself in for a treatment, your body will thank you for it! Student rate 30 min €20,  1 hour €30/Staff rate 30 min €30, 1 hour €50

Every Monday in the Wellness room – through The Hub. Call or txt Mick on 0868378589 to book www.aTensionSeeker.ie
